I've had these for a week now and they're the best closed back I've ever owned or tried. They're just as comfortable as the Shure 1540, they're built very well with all aluminum and wood (no plastic), they're still pretty lightweight, they have a huge soundstage and great imaging, and they're tuned to be reference quality accurate. I'd say the bass is just slightly north of neutral, the mids are linear, and the treble is airy and sparkly with no sibilance whatsoever. They don't really color the sound at all, but are more like a crystal clear window that lets in whatever is played through it. I can't find any faults with them (other than price). To me, they're perfect.

Looks pretty good! Do you have any other headphones for reference like HD6X0 series?

Thanks for the measurements ! Looking at the graphs by itself, it seems HD800 is still a great better deal...LoL

I listened to them in a shop with my Sony ZX2 - sounded quite nice indeed, fairly flat with a touch of smoothness and warmth, bass was excellent - I was thinking if a closed back HD650 existed it might sound like this. I didn't buy them there and then because they didn't isolate at all, but I think I might get them anyway as I can't stop thinking about them

Insanely frustrating. Based on impressions here sounds like something I would have had interest in but lol...
There's legit no reason to buy closed headphones when they don't isolate.

Don't confuse isolating with leaking sound out. I actually appreciate being able to hear my surroundings and most only want closed back headphones to not leak sound and annoy others.

If you need isolation look at some of the recommended IEMs which will all provide better isolation than most closed back headphones.

How would you compare them to the Shure 1540 sound wise? I disliked the Shures because of their massive sub-bass bloat, they are far from neutral because of it - i found them a bit U shaped.

I'm really curious how they compare to a LA D7000, I was never a fan of his prices, but the Lawton Modded Denons were phenomenal sounding! I miss my LA D5000 often, after I got the Lawton Pads for it, it was astonishingly flat. Sold it only because it reminded me of my HE 4, but closed. At that time, I didn't need a closed back...

I find these a little too hot in lower treble and mids (perhaps similar to how I see the measurements above), a bit tiring.. I'm burning them in now and hope they will become smoother. I guess I will be keeping my HD650..

I like a hot upper range! My LA D5k was a little hot up there too, nothing like my HE 4 but nice. Looking forward to hearing how they change for you

Just to confirm, do these also isolate and leak like the Fostex or has isolation been improved?

they are like the Fostex headphones. Don't buy them for these aspects.

The response looks similar to TH-X00. I am curious whether the magnet might be the stronger one. In other words, could this be the TH-X00, but with TH-900 strength magnets. This is why I am super interested? Any other interest? Loaner program?

If they've managed the TH-X00 tonal balance without resorting to the terrible pads, then I think they'll have a real winner on their hands, especially when the price drops to comparable prices.

Thank goodness they mellowed out a bit after 100 hour burn in - initially they felt as if the drivers were a bit stiff. I'm running them on my Sony ZX2 and they sound good now.. I've been comparing them to my HD600, HD650 and Campfire Andromeda and have come to the conclusion that the Denons earn their reference label.
This is my summary after spending few weeks with them:

    * I think they are flat as an ironing board with a touch of sweetness so they don't rape your ears. No peaks or any wonky shit going on in the frequency response, they will let you know straight away if a recording is crap or excellent
    * they have a unique sound: in between a dynamic and planar driver; excellent imaging and sense of space (dynamic driver) with quick transients and bass that is fantastic (planar)
    * No bass bloat but it is tight, balanced and digs deep. My HD650's sub bass is comparatively weak and lady like in comparison.
    * low distortion (probably), they sound smooth and clear
    * Probably well suited to studio music production use; very honest.
    * Comfortable for the most part, read below

    Cons:
    * Can be a little too honest at times - on rare occasions I wish for more sweetness and bit of roll off up top like the HD650
    * Don't isolate extremely well, but it's good enough for me
    * Headband can cause too much central point pressure (experiment with placement and extension)
