    @Gemini

If you're cool enough you can wear anything. Question is just.. how cool are you? Those shoes could easily go here:

White drug lords suits or Asian funeral wear. Get your Escobar or John Hammond in Jurassic Park on or return them.

Yeah but that guy has the "Couldn't give a shit and will punch you in the face if you give him any shit" look. Your average office worker could never get away with those pants.

LOL. I have about as much coolness in my whole body as the pink pants dude has in his pinky.
Asian funeral wear! That's an option.

Edit: Life was much simpler when all I wore was black Converse.

As promised or threatened above, here are a few from my rotation:

    Double Monkstraps

John Lobb, John Lobb, Edward Green

    Bit/Penny Loafers

Tod's, J.M. Weston, J.M. Weston, Ferragamo Tramezza (Goodyear welted line), Johnston & Murphy shell cordovan

    Wingtips

Turnbull & Asser (C&J make I think), Allen Edmonds, Ferragamo Tramezza, Florshiem shell cordovan

Peal & Co. (Brooks Brothers, Alden make) shell cordovan, Stuart's Choice (Paul Stuart rebranded Grenson Masterpiece), Ed Meier (excellent shoe brand from Munich)

    Boots

Ralph Lauren (C&J make) shell cordovan, Ed Meier, John Lobb, Alden, Alden shell cordovan

    7) Casual

Sid Mashburn driving mocs (make unknown, and he wouldn't tell me. Sid has a knack for finding really good stuff he can sell at somewhat reasonable cost.), Bally, Reiter Sport, Reiter Sport (Ludwig Reiter's Reiter Sport sneakers are better made than any other sneakers I've seen, including Hermes)

I've seriously slowed down my shoe purchases in the last few years. The rotation is pretty well filled out. The only thing I might add in the future is a pair of nice whiskey or cognac shell cordovan Budapester wingtips. Heinrich Dinkelacker offers a really nice one in "dark cognac."

Those Edward Green double monks are amazing. I wish I had the style to pull off double monk straps.

I think anyone can wear double monks. Just buy good ones, and don't wear them with the top buckle unbuckled! I think that crosses the the border from "stylish" to "affected." (Sorry, Sid.) The only problem is that good ones have gotten so expensive.

If I had to pick one formal shoe for the rest of my life, it would likely be those EG Westminster double monks. So well made, so comfortable on my feet, so easy to dress up or dress down. Basically the perfect shoe.

I bought these Vass from Canada's distributor who happens to live near buy. They were both a couple hundred CAD less than the going rate at the time and though I won't get that price again I do look forward to building up my stable. These are hand made in Hungary and ship with sized shoe trees. Vass are very very nice shoes.

I have large feet, so I've always had a hard time finding shoes to try on at department/shoe stores (15EE). I'm still looking for an investment shoe - but haven't had the inclination since I am so happy with this shoe that I stumbled on at Zappos about 5 years ago:

Right now, my "go to" because of comfort and durability are these Ecco Helsinki Slip-on's. I've got one pair that's about 5 years old and still going strong with the original sole, despite wearing them 5 days a week. Some routine maintenance/polish is all I've done.

I have black and oxblood, and bought a backup pair of black ones that is sitting in my closet waiting for the first pair to fail:

    1) That is a 'uge foot;
    2) I'm impressed you can find anything that fits comfortably that isn't custom hand-made; but
    3) Ecco are very comfortable, especially the slides. I have almost purchased several times, but my gripes are they have a visible logo mark on the exterior and they cannot be resoled.

I also dislike the logo, but I can overlook it due to comfort and quality. These are definitely the best made/most durable shoes I've ever had. At 6'5", 285lbs I tend to be pretty critical of a shoe that doesn't have good support, and tend to also wear shoes out faster (probably my weight). My shopping experience when looking for a new shoe is almost always ordering 3-5 pairs from Zappos, and returning most of them because of fit issues. It's a real pain.

I should probably just give in and get a custom pair made next time i'm in the UK or Hong Kong, though that may not be any time soon.

Not to be mean or anything, but a square toed dress shoe is a big no go. But I understand that you have a difficult time finding a right size.
Just like a too pointy shoe is a no go aswell. Its not a very flattering shape and does not give a good silhouette as a whole.

Something to consider when buying dress shoes is also its width. Very narrow double monks just doesnt look right.

I have about as much style/fashion know how as my dog, so I take no offense. Thanks for sharing that info. Next time I will hunt for something more rounded

You dont want too round toe box either.
Jhaider's first pic of his double monks show u the perfect round/pointyness.
A classical shape, will last forever and always look good.

Brown is the color to go for, I prefer darker browns. Black is fine, but more formal, I personally only wear black in a funeral or a wedding. Match it with a brown belt for extra points.

You could go for suede aswell. Suede looks baller if you wanna be more casual.

Personally I don't find the Ecco's to be too square. I think the way the seam frames the toe makes it look more square than it really is. They remind me a little bit of the Alden plaza last and are certainly within my realm of acceptable square toes. The Ecco's have a relatively casual styling which makes the squarish toe more acceptable to me.

I love my cole haan aiden grand penny II's. Classic minimalist loafer, neither too stubby nor pointy, and with a nice wide toe box that makes them comfortable all day.
