That would be fine if feet were pointed, but they are not.

I hate wearing anything that squeezes my toes.

    Smart, but not for me...

Well you just get a shoe that fit right, duh :p
And if you cant, you have to get custom.

I can walk all day in my loakes without suffering.

    Update

Boots were bleached several times, and then carefully dyed using a brownish-purple cloth dye. 70% Isopropyl was used to lighten it in some locations. Shoes were then reconditioned using refined coconut oil, and polished using brown kiwi shoe polish. All in all, I spent about $25 on the dye and isopropyl (I keep refined coconut oil around for all my shoes), and this took me 2-3 days mostly just waiting for drying and stuff.

Very satisfied with the results. Ignore the laces, they're just what I had handy because I accidentally bleached the boots with the old laces on like a doofus.

Edward Greens on sale(ish) at Brooks Brothers. Still rubbing my eyes at how pricey they have gotten. A decade ago one could walk into the Jermyn St. store at sale time and find great first-run stuff for ~400UKP, and they'd take the VAT off right there for you.

Perhaps, I don't know. I haven't bought EG's in years. Generally, chain store distribution of a luxury brand (e.g. Brooks Brothers, J. Crew) does not bode well for quality standards. Regardless, the price escalation has been pretty crazy.

I'm not aware of any change of ownership in EG, though I haven't looked out for it, either and I haven't had occasion to see Hilary for some time either. I know Prada bought Church's a while ago, and Hermes owns John Lobb Paris though I believe the John Lobb St. James bespoke operation is still independent.

It's worth a look into the purchase deal. For example, Berkshire buys ownership, and tries to bump up financials, but rarely interferes with actual operations.

I think if you get blue dress shoes, they better be suede (my favorite if I were to buy some). You'd have to be pretty dandy to pull those Mezlans off. A cap toe oxford is the most formal dress shoe style and a blue watch (band?) does not seem formal. There's somewhat of a disconnect there. That said, it is an option to match watch to belt (see #5 here), but that assumes a more traditional band color like brown or black. With the Mezlans, you'd also need to get a blue dress belt which seems next to impossible.

Integrating the blue watch seems much easier to do with navy slacks, blazer, or shirt (e.g., navy check on a white shirt). or a pair of darker blue jeans. Could also look into other accessories like a pocket square or laces. Remember that orange is the complimentary to blue, so you could accent with orange laces or a pocket square. Matchy matchy isn't the way to go here IMO.

Do you have any walnut color shoes, like the Strand? Close enough to orange to make them pop with blue.

For your reference, here's the watch I'm trying to match shoes up with. http://www.pointtec.de/zeppelin/7364-3/

I think it's formal enough for most occasions right now. Looks good in business casual and business formal. Probably not black/white tie event tier fancy, but since I don't have anything nicer than it, I'd just opt for no watch at those kinds of events anyways.

I already have some darker brown shoes I've been using it with, just kind of irks me having different coloured straps and shoes. On your recommendation though I'm also gonna look at more orangey-walnut coloured ones too. Thanks!

A plain cap toe oxford is a very formal shoe, so I think that reason alone make those Mezlans a horrible ROI given the color. Some obviously disagree: https://www.styleforum.net/threads/blue-dress-shoes.125257/ (maybe check the shoes in-person, they may look close to black and look great with grey/charcoal; could also polish them with black). I only wear plain cap toes for job interviews and funerals, and I'm a corporate lawyer. I guess in a less conservative profession you could get away with the color/style combined, but I still don't get why you'd want to. ;) Looks like AE does a navy blue Park Avenue too.

If you're set on the color, I'd suggest looking for a more versatile dress shoe style. That said, Nordstrom's return/exchange policy is great, so may be worth an order while the sale is on to see what you think if you can't check them out in-person.

Yeah. Luckily, both of the cities I spend most of my time in (Vancouver/Calgary) have Nordstrom outlets, which are otherwise a rarity in Canada. May make it an excuse to go to town later this week, need to pick up some wedding gifts anyways!

I dont see a problem wearing a darker blue oxford, as long as his trousers arent black or navy, and he dont wear a belt.
Brown belt with blue shoes? Nicht gut... :D

Grey suit/pants, blue leather belt :)

And when I say blue, I mean it's pretty dark blue. Unless it's in direct sunlight, it usually all looks black.

Try to get side tabs on your suit pants atleast.
Its more appealing as a belt splits the outfit in half, instead of making it flow

Had a wedding to attend recently and just replaced a pair of square toed Eccos I've had for 14 years with a brand new pair of Johnston & Murphy Collins cap toes. Before and after pics below.

The Eccos served me well for many years. They were the most comfortable dress shoes I ever owned. I got married in them. Style-wise, they were not doing it for me anymore. Too big and clunky. I'm loving these new J&Ms. Elegant, stylish, and I'm glad I picked up the purple laces for an extra $4. Comfort isn't quite there yet, but once these break in a bit, I can see them being as great as the Eccos.

A big step up in snazziness. I love the purple laces.

Turns out there is a Johnston and Murphy store on 5th ave in the 20s (I think).

I LOOOOOOVE Johnston and Murphy, I'll have to upload my pairs from them

I'm not ashamed to admit I buy them second hand from my local Cobbler, a wonderful Italian man in his 60s. Does AMAZING work...

This is where I bought them. It's just north of 23rd street across from Madison square park. Sales staff was great!
