If you want to buy me a flight out to Australia, I'll bring my RCA 2a3 dual black plates for a comparo :)

Haha, sadly the tubes are cheaper than your flight! Brent Jesse said he will sell me a quad of NOS dual black plate RCA for about 600usd.
I might be able to get Jac to do 2 sets of quads - mesh and solid. At least that way I can compare the two and will probably settle on a pair of each, that way I have spares :D

I would not use the EML mesh with the Studio and I did not really like them that much with the 2A3 either. The EML mesh are a bit more neutral, the bass is a bit tighter, but have a midrange suckout that defeats them for me. The EML solids have great midrange presence, focus and density. All EMLs have a tiny bit of grain or veil (not brightness), which on less resolving amps is not really noticeable, but in comparison with other tubes it's detactable with the Studio.

Negura is very much a solid plate guy either with EML or Kron.

That's the downside of 2A3 - you just can't have magic glow AND great sound, or at least I haven't found it. The EML mesh don't glow much btw - from memory it's only at the top.

Well it's all about the sound isn't it? I'm going to end up with a mountain of tubes because everyone has such varying opinions.

Truth. In the end, it comes down to your chain, your ears, your sensibilities.

Some thoughts on the AVVT 2A3 Mesh tubes: Presentation / Staging is very holographic - while staying pin-point precise. Overall neutral - more extension top to bottom, with a bit more bass. Less warm than RCA black plates. My references are limited in this tube class, as I've only heard these and the RCA black plates. Hopefully others in the CO. can provide more reference info.

Any meet impressions of the studio from the meet over the weekend? @Ryu gave me a little feedback on the discord.

I saw that you had posted here and thought, could it be?? Could he finally have received his Studio?

Haha, I have a quad and 2 x pairs. the 2 pairs are NOS NIB and will go in the studio. I will hold onto the quad for the moment. A quad is just too rare to sell..

I also sourced a quad of single plate RCA 2a3. I want to hear the studio before I buy another quad though.. It would be terrible to have so many amazing tubes and then not love the voicing of the amp.

Okay, today I noticed something strange.

On the printed user's manual that came with the EC Studio, it says it outputs 2W into 32 ohms. So all this time I thought it was 2W. However, on the EC official website, it says it outputs 800mW into 32 ohms.

Which is correct? If it outputs only 800mW into 32 ohms, that makes Studio a less powerful amp than Balancing Act (which outputs 1.5W into Grado RS1 which is 32 ohms).

Also, in contrast to most balanced amps that provide more power (usually double) in balanced out compared to SE out, do the SE and balanced outs of Studio have the same power output?

If it uses similar transformer ratio as my old 2A3, then 0.8 W is correct.
The Studio like any of the 2A3 series were built for speakers in mind so the trannys have less secondary turns, this means less voltage, more current. Headphones are not going to run into current limits with such amplifiers.
The BA might easily have more hot output. Stratus for example is outputing roughly twice as many pixies into most headphones.

SE and Bal outs are practically the same thing with EC's tranny outputs. You only tie up -outputs to common ground.
