"The best" music is, of course, a purely subjective exercise but I will say that bleep tends to lean towards the more experimental and ambient from what I've seen of their albums of the week. I think the Photay album is really, really good and I would probably have it on my top 20 albums of the year. I listen to a wide variety of music, not just electronic. i like the Jlin album too and if you're into more ambient stuff the Cortini album is very good as well.

EDIT: I went to check out the discussion on watmm and I did not find any unanimous laughing at this list as you claim. A couple of people repeatedly posting strongly-stated opinions and the rest actually having rational discussion agreeing with some of the picks, disagreeing with others, several crediting it with finding an album that they enjoyed and were not familiar with. All the normal reactions to any top 10 of the year list. Some seem to find fault with not all of the releases being electronic though Bleep says in the intro that these are "from across the board."

you have the right to find the bleep list representative of the best of the year but I dont. I almost dont think its a honest list at all.

East of oceans, Bicep, Lusine, Blanck Mass, Kettel, Deepchord, Loess are highlights for me this year in electronica.

in the ambient realm, Irisarri- the shameless years is to me much more compelling then cortini, so is Hakobune, Foudre, 36, Bvdub, Carbon Based Lifeforms, ect

Why would I find it representative of the best of the year? It’s not my list, it’s Bleep’s.

Yeah, and Blanck Mass were on that list- World Eater is pretty solid. Actually, the Lee Gamble thing, "Mnestic Pressure" isn't bad, reminds me a little of some of the weirder excursions of T-Power back in the late jungle era. There is actually some sound stuff on that Bleep list, for a variety of tastes- you don't have to love it all. I don't. No need to chew @DigMe out for posting it, though.

Not sure WTF is going on with that cod "Burial does RnB" album, though- Ninja please.

Also, it's easy for edgelords to knock Brainwaltzera to show how on-point they are, but he does have his moments. Those of us who loved our AFX, Cylob and Autechre and found the Skrillex and Dead Mau Five* era depressing can use it as therapy. He does deliver, on occasions. He has a nice mix up on Soundcloud (too bad there's no D/L link):

    https://soundcloud.com/bleep_bot/bleep-mix-brainwaltzera

A lot of it's down to personal choice- there's a very limited amount of scope in declaring a lot of it objectively brilliant or terrible. That said, the Bicep album is fire, and fuck anyone who says otherwise :D

    * Red Plasticup "EDM" fan fratboys would go mental if you said that, and lose their shit correcting you, hence the habit. Amusing, as the guy himself (who used to be on some forums that I haunted with my aspie ways) gives far less of a damn about things than you'd expect. He's way more tolerable than his music. Go figure.

lol yeah, im a old watmmer who couldn't connect with them taste anymore lol
grew up loving AFX but nowadays cannot tolerate it much further then his cute idm tracks and ambient stuff. I also hated the skrillex era but gotta say my taste seem to have widen, or maybe skrillex improved cause im in secret love of his new single and cannot enjoy the new aphex twin stuff he released this year. all of it to me sounds like mental masturbation

Bleep list makes me mad for some reasons, but gotta learn to not give a crap and enjoy what I enjoy.

yeah the Bicep album is fire! blanck mass as well! also, I totally understand people not liking Bvdub/east of oceans. I almost have a fetish for his music and get all worked up when he's constantly under the radar. same for kettel. lol

Ive been listening to Foudre!- earth live. its something else!

I needed to go retro after all the 2017 talk.

I listened to this album so many times when it came out. Almost every track is gold.

Anyone into Antwood? Probably more classifiable as "experimental" than "electronic" but still largely electronic. The new album Sponsored Content is wild. Here's a track from it which is probably its most accessible track but not really representative of the rest of the album. :D

Really nice effect on headphones. Pearson Sound is ear candy. I've accumulated over 50,000 minutes of electronic and sample-based music in the last year, but hoping to expand my horizons in every which way.

And a very different type of electronic music below (g-funk)... really love it or hate it type stuff.
