    Hey all,

I recently got a new mechanical keyboard and am looking to replace my mouse as well.

I'm a sucker for brands, and am looking at Corsair mice since that's the keyboard I went with.

Any experience with the Sabre or the M65?

I don't need something crazy with 100 buttons. Mainly, I just need it to be accurate, comfortable, and at the very least have the back and forward browser buttons on the left side.

I absolutely don't want any of that Transformer-looking nonsense.

    Open to thoughts and suggestions.

    Thanks!

Not being a pc gamer, and having used a trackpad for years... I had several interesting ideas roll through my idea before realizing what "gaming mice" meant... Including some variation of mazes, dice, and role-playing.

    Gaming mice is veeery personal.

After trying many different ones I've found nothing that fits me as well and feels as intuitive as the razer deathadder chroma (I have the 2013 model but it's the same minus some fancier lights). The razer logo can be turned off if you want it less flashy looking.

I also recommend steelseries 9HD mousepad.

    YMMV.

Basically a list of a lot of great options and their differences.

I use a Zowie FK1 (the old one with a higher click latency) but I've pretty much stopped gaming long ago.

I am not a gamer, unless you count Original XP Solitaire (under Wine) on the PC, or Tetris on the phone, which most people wouldn't, and which certainly wouldn't demand any special equipment. However, I do like to have more than three buttons and a wheel.

I suspect it is the sweaty-hand-enhanced humidity of my tropical location, but I eat mice since I moved here. A standard Logitech thingy starts giving trouble after just a few months. I bought a Roccat Kone XTD (Deal-maker: availability of Linux drivers), looking for those extra buttons and hoping for better quality. I also discovered that the microswitches inside mice are not sealed, and can be opened up. That discovery only mattered when I found DeOxit. Even the Roccat (are those switches much different to run-of-the-mill stuff? they don't look it inside) started to glitch (eg phantom double clicks) after about a year.

Given the price difference (and the cost of DeOxit!) I should probably just be throwing away Logitech mice twice a year, but, I like my Kone XTD, and, Caig willing, it will last me a while yet.

Been playing FPS games for a long time and as a result very picky about mice. Been through a lot of IME 1.1s, 3.0s, Logitech MX518s and G400s (angle-snapping and non-angle-snapping), had a Steelseries Ikari Optical as well. Tried a lot of Razer ones, only the Deathadder was even usable to me, couldn't stand the rest. A friend of mine has the Steelseries Rival which I can safely say is their best mouse to date. Zowie mice only just started being somewhat available over here so I have yet to try them out but their basic feature set doesn't really justify the asking prices IMO and if you don't like the shape of one you probably won't like any of their mice.

However I've finally settled on my Mionix Avior 7000 and have absolutely no issues with it, I may consider trying the Naos or getting the Castor later down the line but there's really nothing I dislike about this mouse. Might try the G502 but I really don't like the new 'G' gamer branding all over Logitech gear.

Also have an MX Master for my laptop/portable use, it's awesome. If I wasn't using it at work I'd be very tempted to just use it on my desktop too.

My tl;dr for mice would be: flawless sensors are overhyped and most people don't care about that stuff, unless it's really important for the games you are playing find something that is comfortable and has the feature set you require. The guides like the one posted by @Serious are a great resource for researching, unfortunately it's hard to find stores that let you physically demo mice to ascertain comfort and it can often be a shot in the dark.

I use a Final Mouse, it's legit. Very light, minimal on features, and small enough to be usable with my small hands. More important than just getting a new mouse, make sure you turn off mouse acceleration in Windows (Assuming you have windows), because that will make a huge difference in your consistency with FPS stuff.

Form factor > everything else. The bells and whistles are just that, bells and whistles; some of the best competitive Quake players (a high-skill first person shooter) still use the ancient Microsoft WMO 1.1 which is an ambidextrous, light 3 button mouse with a (quite good) 400 dpi sensor. I have one and it's super ergonomic and precise. I've tried newer mice and they all fall short in some aspect, some of the newer sensors don't even perform as good as the ancient MLT 04 sensor at the same DPI. That said, I've been trying to get used to a newer mouse with the ADNS-3090 which is slightly finnicky with surfaces but performs decently, I never have to go past 800 dpi.

I have a M60. It's alright, super-duper heavy duty. A 15 kg speaker fell on it from a stand and a Apple keyboard. Keyboard got damaged, but mouse survived, just bent the wheel a little bit, then I bent it back and it worked again.

I have a large hand, so it fits me fine, but many have complained its too clunky and big for their hands. I miss the inertia wheel from my previous Logitech.

I have a K70 keyboard with Cherry Reds and I use a Logitech G502 Proteus. Has a few buttons, but not like an MMO or RTS mouse. It is more geared towards FPS-style games. Customizable weight, but not form. Can store settings in the mouse itself so it works on my Mac and PC running the Logitech Software. You can customize the light through the software. I suggest you either have the light on max or off since there appears to be a short when the LED switches on/off, triggering a button. I switched off the LED, I have not issues with the mouse after I figured out "breathing" LED was causing the loss of focus.

Good button feel (Mouse 1, Mouse 2). Has a button that switch the scroll wheel from Free to Clicky (detentes really).

I suggest head down to a electronics shop like Best Buy or Fry's type store get a feel of the mice there.

I have a Razer DeathAdder now and am pretty fond of it. It fits my hand well and doesn't have a ton of extra stuff that I don't need. It's been a good fit for me in terms of RTS gaming.

But, I don't like having to run the Synapse software for the mouse and the Corsair software for my keyboard. It'd be kind of nice to get the Corsair Sabre, so I can run the same software for both peripherals.

Then, I can take the Razer mouse to work and get rid of the crappy mouse I've been stuck with there for a while now.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll definitely check them out. A couple of the brands mentioned above are completely new to me.

I use the Razer DeathAdder. It's the best hardware out there. Street cred: I'm a game designer at Blizzard, used to be a competitive gamer before it paid, and I'm still very good at shooters.

You can uninstall Synapse after it's configured, but I leave it installed now.

Hmm....I don't run the software for my K70 because there is nothing to really macro. I do run the Logitech Software for my G502 only because of my custom DPI settings. However, I use the same DPI profile for all of my uses soo....If I had more than 3 settings without the software, I wouldn't need to run it either. I don't know how much it helps, but I have my mousing surface "optimized" by the Logitech software. No idea if it improved tracking or not.

Not playing many RTSs or MOBAs (no time to really learn those games anymore), I think keyboard and mouse software is overkill or me. I can totally see the need to support macro'ing and shortcuts for those games.

I've got the Strafe RGB, so it's really more about color management than anything else.

For the mouse, it would be color and assigning buttons/profiles. My wife uses the computer for work and hates the high sensitivity mouse and prefers different keyboard color settings. So, it's nice to just be able to switch a profile and be done with it. To be able to manage the mouse and keyboard from the same place is a big plus.

Will you be playing competitive FPS games? If so you should really look into getting a mouse with a good optical sensor. My preferred sensor so far is the G502 / G303 sensor (PMW3366).
