I'm also running the Duelund bare, and it sounds pretty nice!

I'm trying to find some good ol' fashioned Nearfields for my desk. So far I've looked at the following:

    LS50s
    Omega Super i3s
    Mini Philharmonitor

I got a budget with a max of $800. I'm leaning towards the Mini phils

So I recently paid (big ouch goes my bank account) for my Omega Super Alnico XRSs, and given that it's a highly efficient 6.5" single driver, what're some amps I should be looking at? M22 is virtually impossible to find where I am, and there's the JLH69, but I'm not sure of what else. Might look at the EC AF if my bonus this year is good...

    (Speaker's 8ohms and about 95dB efficient)

Tubes! 300B or 845 SET would be a great match

If you want SS, really consider a Sudgen A21 (SE version probably not needed).

Difficult to regret trying out JLHood. It's so cheap, and still good.
It should play to the strengths of widebanders and also wouldn't embarrass itself too much in bass and high treble given the limits of the transducer.
SET from EC would be step up though.

With that kind of efficiency it would be a shame not to go with a singled-ended topology. What about a FirstWatt J2? (Or the older F3 if you can find one used.)

Man that 300B looks incredible. And being in the same city as @tomchr is incredibly fortunate.

    Found this this at Target

Horn adapter for your iPhone. I tried it out and it does get louder, but the sound is much worse. Really metallic sounding.

Brilliant. Deserves a place in the speaker-porn thread! Even if it is not exactly a place of honour. Somehow, I just feel glad that this thing exists!

I tried putting one of my Altec 811b horns up to my phone speaker. Gets much louder, but much more harsh, and metallic. Probably because the horn can only go down to 800hz. really makes it louder though. Kind of inconvinent for a portable speaker though. Not really pockatable.

    Wind-up gramophones.

Yes, horns really work*! After a fashion. In fact, early recordings were cut by singing/playing into the horn, right?

When you are five or six years old, it just, sort-of... comes naturally!

@JoshMorr When you have a moment, I'd love to hear your impressions on how the Fortes do with low-level listening. I'm mostly listening to HPs early morning / late-night when the kids are asleep, but I'd love to unplug.

Edit: Listening at a lower volume.

Also paging @dmckean44, same question about the Cornscalas.

Low level listening - what is this term mean? I am unfamiliar.

In all honestly I have not listened at lower volumes yet. Let me check sometime over the next few days and report what I hear.
