Most of my favorite music can't easily be filed under one genre. So here's a thread to share a few of my favorite genre-bounding bits of music and hopefully hear some of yours.

    A few to get started.

    Classical, tango, jazz.

    Opera, latin

    Electronic, Indian

    Cuban, punk

    Jazz, funk, soul, alien

@Stuff Jones , Agartha and Pangea are amazing albums by Miles despite the bathtub sound of the mixes.

This may not win me any friends, but behold- the French musician Igorrr:

He likes to fuse breakcore, black metal, baroque classical and sometimes some bluegrass and jazz. The end result may not be to everyone's taste.

How about something from Percival and The Witcher 3? Fantastic music if you ask me.

I love to listen to an avante-guarde experimental piece called 'La Selva' by Francesco Lopez.

The way sound from a Costa Rican rainforest is rendered is astonishing. The various sounds are musical in nature with tempo, pitch, harmony, dynamics, even melody. Night turns into day and then night again. Sonic themes are presented with great contrast and variety. One might call it nature's music shaped by a talented man...

Hopefully someone can enjoy this original piece...

Nice to see DJ Cheb I Sabbah (RIP) make an appearance.. I'm a big fan! I recommend Karsh Kale, as well.

Huge Cheb I Sabbah fan. You could tell he had so much love for his source material. He never used it just as a flourish to exoticize his beats.

You've of course heard this? This was out in 1982..

    Some Sud America psychadelia

Not exactly genre bending but 2.0 versions of that other song...check the whole list

    MMW - awesome live shows

Stopped listening to new music for a long time, so these were new to me but was already old when I heard it. I'm sure a lot of stuff out there in this vein?

Atypical Telugu psyops for that time; not the usual song and dance that was put out - one of the most prolific composers - scared the br'er rabbit out of me as a kid.

I don't see anything really gender bending in the previous posts, I'll try to make up for it.

This is a tough one for me to qualify actually. Do songs influenced by different genres, also be considered bending? Straight crossover mashups? Sampling? Do we look at the group as a whole, or just citing a specific song? Early rock had influences from blues, country, etc - I guess that could be called genre-bending? Some of the stuff I posted, has to be taken in context for the time period. The Indian songs were considered way out of the box when they came out...now a lot of stuff has gone that route in their own way. The higher usage of electronic manipulation of sound in the last few decades for sampling, editing, mixing, etc, for me, makes it much harder to say...
I'll throw this up but still not sure if it qualifies. Lee Perry's rendition of an old Hindi film song (original at the end). I'm a huge Lee Perry fan and found this by accident.

I love Celtic singing and the lead singer was the first chick to make me question my sexual leanings a little more in a very weird way... TMI?...Check out Sheila Chandra too.

Genre and Gender bending too for those paying attention :) !
