Jesus Christ! Just get a f'ing map. I'm not gonna teach you the geography of the United States—the country, ya know, you actually live in!

Amongst your greatest hits, you seem to think that Seattle is in between Denver and Milwaukee, and Oklahoma City is somewhere betwixt Chicago and Columbus. (Both changes might make for a more interesting country, but that's not the country we have.) By your own admission, you don't have a clue.

I don't have the energy for a back-and-forth about this. Just sort it out. Or don't. Whatever...

@Claritas, I respect you and think you are a valued member here, but @sphinxvc works hard and has a lot to keep track of and we are lucky we have someone willing to keep track of all of these loaners and programs along with the rest of our great Gear Masters.

Being a total asshole gets you dropped from a list. Deal with it. And next time, clarify mistakes you see. I don't memorize where everyone lives, and people move too, so sometimes I get it wrong and try to fix it right away. In the meantime, you can keep listening to those earmuffs in Illinois.

@Claritas I put you back on the list. You annoyed me yesterday, but I don't hold onto things long. Speaking of, I thought you lived in CA, which is why I put you after Iceman. You're now part of the Midwest group. If there's some optimum path through that area that you have time to analyze, go right ahead and suggest it. I certainly don't have time for that.

The funny thing here is that I know a bit about @sphinxvc, his work and how he approaches problem solving and he's clearly one of the brightest members here. It's a pain in the ass to run the loaners and he does it without complaint. Sure, sometimes dumbassery occurs, but that's generally just due to crossed wires somewhere. This is just something he does in his spare time to help our Marv and the crew.

It's really nice to see you walk back your abuse of power. Very graceful. Smooth.

    Optimally,

    West –> Central –> East
    East –> Central –> West
Central –> East or West, based on rotation / coin toss

I would've thought that was obvious. Well, just fix it.

wtf @Claritas , I dislike your post because (imo) you were being an ass, and you dislike a random post I made posting my measurements of the sony MDR-1Z

which, on topic, are now safely in my possession

Ah, good, a place I can voice myself.
I dislike Claritas first post- he goes and dislikes a post I made in the thread, unrelated, a few days prior.
I dislike Claritas second post- he goes and dislikes my post telling him off (acceptable), and then dislikes a random post of mine in the Sony MDR-Z1R thread posting my measurements.

But whatever, dislikes don't matter anyway. Ill continue on my way, and not hold a grudge. I hope Claritas can do the same.

You know, at first I thought the thread should be called "Sphinx doesn't know how to read a map, and goes around taking it out on anyone who points out that fact." But, on second thought, I like it. Geography is something I'm good at.

But, seriously, @sphinxvc, just address the issue. What I'm proposing has the merit of, you know, making sense.

There is no "abuse of power". Loaners are sort of a free service for SBAF members.

There are a few requirements. To be a "Friend", because:

    1) We want to avoid equipment disappearance blamed on FedEx, USPS or Santa Claus.
    2) We want friendly and nice interchanges where all parties are having a good time with this program or whatever one wants to call it. Geography expertise or not.

Number 2) is not getting fulfilled here.

This is not a "paid" service where one gets to abuse the costumer service rep. There is no costumer service rep.

One may be having a bad day. It is what it is. But don't bitch slap around a friend about it. I definitively wouldn't want to be in the bitch slapped end, specially when the bitch slapping is coming from a friend.

BTW I'm an American (as in the United States of America, north of Mexico and south of Canada). Proudly so.

But I was born in Mexico. I bet a shit load of people don't know Mexico is in North America and think it's Central or South America or something. I bet a lot of folk don't even know that the real name of Mexico is "Estados Unidos Mexicanos" which translates to Mexican United States.

And ask me if I give a shit.

(Yeah, yeah, what's the point. Point is that I personally don't care about geography that much as long as things get sorted out. In the context of the loaners it's sort of nit picking IMO. As long as the distribution makes sense and things get there safe and sound, life is good.)

I can see we're coming at this from very different perspectives.

First of all, loaners are funded by donations. That's what the donations are for. That, and general site maintenance. It's pretty silly to pretend otherwise. So, yes, there was an abuse of power. If someone has a position and carries out a vendetta because he's embarrassed by someone else's pointing out his ignorance, then yes, that is an abuse of power. If it were a corporation, the guy would be cashiered, but we're nice people here.

Second, just because someone volunteers for a job doesn't mean they can go about it any old way and f**k it up. I pointed out this issue over a year ago. This isn't some new problem. At SBAF, problems are seldom new problems: it's an old problem that was never fixed. Because, I don't know, you guys don't like fixing things or something. You'd rather live with the problem and complain about it, like Chris's rant about the sales forum.

That's not my approach. I propose solutions. That's what I'm proposing here: a solution. So, just, fix the problem. We get it right, and we move on the next problem, and then we fix that. This isn't rocket surgery. It's knowing left from right—and right from wrong.

I think donations can be refunded. Can ask @Marvey about that if you like.

I believe Chris was about to close the for sale forum all together as a solution. We can change that "rant" into a reality.

As far as proposing solutions, the only solution I saw there from you is to close a loaner from further participation once active until completed, perhaps to avoid confusion and displacement of members on the waiting list. I believe for the most part we are doing this, unless it makes sense to add a new member if it fits with the current distribution of things. You think this is not optimal?

On the particular thread in question, the only thing I saw lately from you was this:

It may be me, but I fail to see the solution proposition above. All I see is @Claritas not having "the energy for a back-and-forth about this". So what was this solution we are talking about that consumed so much of your energy?

OK, that's a non-answer. These sorts of threats don't actually solve anything. Sure, you can tell people to get divorced too, but I wouldn't call that actually solving the couple's problems.

I proposed a solution right here on this page.
But I shouldn't have had to propose a solution. It should have been obvious: Use a map if you don't know where things are, especially when you know you don't know. Don't be a dumb male stereotype. Don't double down on ignorance.

I've been in a few loaners. Not that many though. And I think that proposed solution is usually in line with what @sphinxvc does.

It may not always work out that way because we forget Illinois is in California, Manhattan is in New Mexico, and Dallas is in Oregon, but I'm sure @sphinxvc tries and is open to corrections. No need to give folks a black eye.

The issue is not geography. Although that is a convenient thing to assume and evidently get salty about. The issue is about not knowing where people are located. The loaner process is not clear cut. Not everyone states their location when they post for interest, and not everyone puts their location up on their profile. User locations do not show up when you're browsing on mobile either. Having a life outside of managing loaners on SBAF, I don't have time to find a perfect and elegant solution to this problem. So what happens is I rely on my familiarity with members locations to lay out the route. In general this works, but sometimes there's human error, like being convinced Claritas is a handle associated with CA (again, I can't see locations easily if I do this stuff on mobile). Sometimes I can find out where someone's located, and sometimes, I even have to Google it.

The 'optimal' solution you posted is patronizing and you know it. It is not actually helpful. Solve the problem above about registering locations, or volunteer your time to help us. We've been a long time with just one person tracking USA loaners. Alternatively, maybe you can pick up my laundry and run errands so I have more time for SBAF? I'll be able to address the issues without being an asshole about it either.

I don't really care that you think I temporarily "abused my power." Part of my role here is vet people for loaners. You have a history of being a pedantic asshole, and no, that doesn't exactly qualify you as top of my list for loaners. I don't really know when you're going to blast someone for being a day late or who knows what next. In the end, like I said, I don't hold onto things long, and you can continue participating until you f**k up one too many times.

If you think donating to us entitles you to anything, you really should take @ultrabike's offer/@Marvey's offer for a refund. I'm happy to replace whatever you pull out too so we're no poorer.

@sphinxvc Kindly explain why this loaner is bypassing all of Middle America. It's going straight from the West Coast to the East Coast. I can certainly think of some uncharitable explanations for that; I can't think of any good ones. You want to talk about patronizing? That would be the place to start.

I'm not even gonna get into the stupid rules and/or Nick have come with, except to say that we didn't have this kind of f'ing idiocy on Changstar. (We had other kinds of idiocy, but not the bureaucratic kind). Besides that, "pedantic asshole," huh? No, I have a history of wanting to get things right. You don't know me from Adam, so shut your f'ing hole.
