    Hi all my superbestaudiofriends!
I recently upgraded my dac to a schiit Yggdrasil, from a bifrost multibit. I am still using my Asgard 2. And my headphones are the Sennheiser HD800 S. Really loving the sound. I want to upgrade my amp, and am trying to decide between a Mjolnir 2 and the Ragnarok. I have never had or heard a tube amp.
Why would I want one or the other?

I wish I could give you a recommendation, but I am not one of those who gives advice on gear he hasn't heard. I can tell you the following:

Firstly, Yggdrasil as your DAC- awesome

Secondly, Mjolnir 2 you can Choose Tube Hybrid, Solid-State, or Both, It’s balanced in and balanced out, with a custom 4-gang RK27 Alps volume pot—providing end-game performance for a mid-level price.

Thirdly, Ragnarock is a complete Integrated Amp, it includes 5 relay-switched inputs—two balanced and three single-ended, as well as balanced and single-ended preamp outputs for use as a preamp. For outputs, both balanced and single-ended outputs are provided for headphones, and balanced speaker terminal outputs for loudspeakers. Nothing In the Signal Path Except Signal

    schiit.com

I have read that both are good, like I said I haven't heard either of them, just going by what other members have said, but if I had a personal choice and had the cash, I would personally go with the Ragnarock.

My experience with the HD800S and Mjo2 were that rolling tubes actually changed the sound signature a fair amount (say 10-15%). My favourites were Amperex PQ USA 7308 and Philips Mini Watt E188CC. Adding a little EQ on the bottom end and it was a great combo.

The whole setup wasn't an entirely 'fun' system and have since decided to go on another path for my headphones.

The Ragnarok is an awesome headphone amp. I've listed to it on a few occasions paired with the Yggdrasil and it is really an impressive combo. At that price though, there are a number of good tube amps as well. Take a look and the Ampandsound Kenzie and Cavali's yet unnamed hybrid that should come in around $1500.

Thanks all. Sorry didn't mean to make anyone upset. I will be sure to post in appropriate forums in the future ☺.

So, can I reply in this thread, since it has been moved? Or should I start a new Thread?
@Faker , I did see that thread, though I thought is was specifically for the HD800, not the HD800 S?

@The Alchemist , thanks for he reply☺ Yeah the Yggdrasil is awesome! I think I'm leaning toward the Ragnarok,

@msommers , thanks. This might help narrow down. I don't think I would car to try and find the right sound changing tubes.....

You asked a month ago too and was given good advice to check out the amps for hd800 thread. It still holds true with your recent DAC change (good choice by the way). The thread mentions the S version in the very first post.

I've found that amps that work for the 800 also work well for the 800S, you may just need to mod the original 800 for some of the pairings.

AH everyone with their HD800s, and I just have the original HD800 - but @Marvey did the Z28 mod on it to add resonators - I love it.

That's really not that useful, suggesting an amp that no-one has heard yet, lack of a name aside. You have no idea if it's any good or not.

    (Edit: pointlessness of thread aside..)

You may mock, but it's SRS. The poor guy needs advice. I don't know what headphones he's using, but they're hungry:

Help him before they kill again.

Well I have heard it and it does indeed sound very good. I think a few others around here have heard it as well.
