    Improvements include:
    • The weight of the HE1000 V2 has been reduced to 420g (14.8oz).
    • Beveled ear pads are thicker with a larger asymmetrical angle to yield better bass and improved sound stage.
    • High performance cables have always been a mainstay of HIFIMAN and the company’s flagship will now come standard with a three-core cable for improved sound quality.
    • The newly updated HE1000 V2 also changes the ear pad material from Velour to Polyester to increase sound transparency and resolution.
    • new window shade grill system for more openess in the soundstage

Has anyone heard about this upcoming announcement? From what I've read it seems they are focusing more on improving the build quality of the existing HE1000 + HEX instead of improving SQ (Something they should of spent more time on before the initial release in the first place IMO). The announcement could be as early as the end of this week.

Pretty lame attempt compared to Focal build quality.

V1 of the HEK are pretty damn comfortable already, and soundstage was great (especially compared to Audeze). It doesn't seem like they're addressing the overall toy-like build quality with a grill + pad change.

So they finally change to use real alloy for the grill, instead of the same chrome plated plastic used by $5 bathroom hook.

wonder if they will have some sort of upgrade program like with the ether flow, otherwise there are gonna be a lot of upset hek owners. It shouldn't be difficult since it seems most of the changes are in the pad, but I don't know if the pads are removable

    Pads are easily removable.

Grills take a bit more elbow grease; it is seated behind the drivers. But really you need nothing more than a jeweler's philips screwdriver and 10 minutes.

    Cables are detachable so w/e.

All in all, these V2 changes should be pretty easy for users to swap in to their V1 HEKs.

I wonder where they shaved off the weight though.

It says some of the weight savings are coming from the pads themselves

Hopefully they don't cost even more.

My biggest criticism of the V1 HEK's build quality is the headband size adjustment mechanism. On my pair (which I just recently returned) the right-side especially would shift to the next position up way too easily and just seemed too delicate overall to not break.

Great that it was so light, but didn't feel the build quality when handled was up to par with price (although was just a minor reason I decided to send it back).

OMG! Polyster pads! For only 3K!! They're gonna bankrupt the company for the love of music!

    and a THREE core cable!

and they kept the price the same, bless their kind hearts.

Jokes aside, I'm super happy to see the street price of the cans settle around the 2K mark. With the launch of the Focals this downward pressure is only going to accelerate.

I've auditioned these cans and these guys deserve to be boycotted for trying to sell this thing for 3K.

For me, the HE-6 was the last great Hifiman product.

HE-6 is one of my favorite headphones.

I also liked HE500 although the $899 introductory price was to high, HE6 is a much better headphone overall

The Edition X is 6 months old and they're releasing a f'ing 'update'?

I'm all down for proper innovation but this is a slap in the face to current owners.

I'd want a 60-70% (at least) exchange scheme or a bag of yellow dicks being sucked.

Indeed, dated may 15th 2015, as a reminder of the only real He6 Messiah's work :

Same here, as I already told Fang that I thought these would be pretty decent at 2K even before the thing came out.

Before a bunch of posts here got removed, I just wanted to say again that I'm interested in the weight savings on this. Ok, there's the pads, but can pads really trim off 60g (480g old vs. 420g new)?

And I really hope they work on making the build quality of this thing better. Granted, my HE1000 hasn't started falling apart yet, but it doesn't exactly inspire confidence when parts of my HE-400i started breaking by themselves considering how I usually treat my headphones carefully.

I'm hoping HiFiMan has a demo HEK V2 at canjam London this week so I can compare it against mine.
