I think I may like this album too much...

I was just looking at the number of plays for songs off of Dream Theater's album "The Astonishing" and I couldn't believe how much I listened to the songs on the album. When you look at the pic below, I have arrows pointing to the date the songs were added to my Library, and another arrow pointing to how many times I have listened to the songs - I am a bit surprised I have listened to it this much in just a little over a year!

That's going to sound even better on the HE-500, too bad I wasn't able to send you a pair of modded HE-6 instead!

According to my last.fm, I've listened to about 31,000 songs since December (when I set it up to actually start logging) with about 8,400 unique tracks, and the most I've listened to a single track is 57 times. 1000 listens on a single track is insane!

I just listened to part of that album yesterday on Tidal. I'm letting it grow on me. Being a relative DT newb, I'm still trying to figure out which era and which albums I like the best, but the later stuff seems more to my liking.

Never have been able to get into DT despite having a long history of enjoying prog and other more complex music.

I have the same "issue" with this album. I don't want to know how many times I have listened to this over the last 50 years. Thank god last.fm wasn't around for most of that time.

Greatest Hit and 21 other cool songs has drawn me into Dream Theater. The Astonishing doesn't touch me at all.

@numbercube - well the Astonishing isn't for everyone. It obviously is a concept album and a very long one. I read an interview with Dream Theater and their next album will be very different from The Astonishing

I'm a big DT fan, but the problem with the Astonishing isn't the length, just the quality. I like maybe four tracks on it. It sounds like a mediocre stage play with mediocre character names like "Lord Nafaryus"...come on. I'd rather listen to SFAM or Six Degrees any day. Just too damn cheesy

I can definitely understand what you are saying, but have you read the actual "Script" ? It actually makes a lot more sense and it is actually a really good story, but I think to fully understand it (i.e. which characters are speaking, the factions, etc.) you need the actual script. It came with the Astonishing box set but I found a .pdf if you'd like to take a look, at least give the script a chance IMO.
