I recently jumped from an iPhone 6 to 7. I was shopping for an 8, but with the differences between the 7 and 8 negligible* I decided on the 7. For the money, you can get way more storage.

That said, I nearly sprung for the X. The screen is stunning, and I thoroughly enjoyed the browsing experience. I passed on it though because I had to pay for the Schitt MB dongle and a Honda EU1000i. I really like the portability.

    * The newer processing chip and wireless charging were not appealing to me, especially with a need for more storage.

    Stream of spew...

Upgraded from the 6s to 8 plus. I should probably be an Android person, but saw too much ick under the hood trying to get a complex application to run 24/7 under Android 2.x, 3x, and 4.x. Not that Android OS was meant for the purpose I was trying to bend it too, and not that IOS is any better, just that I've not seen the ugly side of IOS as intimately.

I'm no MAC person either. Windows has been stable for me, but then I've been working with Windows for so long I can solve my own issues quickly. For Linux programming, Ubuntu in a VM, and I'm happy there.

That written, IOS just feels slick to me (yes, that's a subjective view only). It matches my own sense of what is intuitive.

Why no X? It just didn't work for me. Multiple reasons, but the primary reason is I missed the button, I missed the finger print sensor. That simple single button works.

I went from a 6+ to an 8+. The lightning DAC/amp dongle is better with the Massdrop Plus IEM than the 6+ headphone jack was. But the opposite was true for the Noble X IEM. I recommend people that have a 6 or older iPhone and are thinking about upgrading first try the dongle with their portable setup, they're surprisingly inexpensive on amazon.

@a44100Hz Not super thrilled with the DAC in the lightening connector. Sure it works, but I can only tolerate for a few minutes.

I do give Apple kudos for fitting a DAC in such a small form factor, but the sound annoys me.

I recently jumped from a Pixel 2 XL to a refurb iPhone 7. I was getting really fed up with google’s insane app fragmentation (e.g. 3-4 different e-mail apps, messaging apps, etc. that you can’t fully uninstall). I thought the Pixel hardware was really unimpressive for the Apple-like prices they’re going for now. If I’m going to sell my soul to a mobile ecosystem, i’d rather sell it to one that seems to work reliably, has better support, and makes money selling devices/services rather than advertisements.

I just made the exact opposite jump. I returned my iPhone 7 with what the Verizon person told me is a known issue (trouble getting a signal). Even besides that, it was starting to incense me w. its terrible battery life and crashing/freezing. Siri had somehow gotten worse year-over-year. Quite happy with the Pixel 2 XL now, apart from still not having a headphone jack. =/

I switched from a 6S+ to an X but had to go back to the 6S+ when the first time I used the face recognition the screen cracked! :(

Phones are our Monday problem, too many choices ;) Sort by cost and personal pet-peeves. I think I'll pass on first generation 5G, but that's the only feature on the horizon that may motivate me to swap next time around.
