I doubt it had anything to do with that @Rthomas. He probably fought back when the beancounters decided to jack up the price so they canned him. He also talked about doing a special introductory deal for Headfi and SBAF members which corporate probably shot down as well.

Thats a real shame, @musiqlovr did a great job of building my interest in these. I'm not too optimistic about the future directions of the Klipsch headphone line without someone like him driving it.

I'm feeling really conflicted about this. On one hand, I'm pissed that Klipsch let Steve go after the countless hours of hard work he put into the headphone. I'm pissed that they decided to jack up the price after word started spreading that they sounded really good. I'm annoyed that Steve won't see any of the profits that will come once these are released.

But I also feel bad because I have to believe that Steve would want this community to hear the final result after two years of work and I'm sure Vlad and the other guys behind the project would as well. Man, this really bums me out.

Steve, if you are reading this thread, this hobby needs more people like you. Please find another headphone company who can utilize your talents or hell, start your own. This community will support your future ventures.

FAIL. Subtract $200 box. Add @musiqlovr back into the equation.

    No that wasn't it.

It's sad because Steve could have been very successful given enough time. The problem is that most investors want results right away. Steve understood how to make a great product, build interest on the community level (he definitely understood the power of Internet forums in 2017, something that probably can't be said of Klipsch or other audiophile companies). I was looking forward to getting some of the Klipsch speakers in for review (they don't cost that much). This would have been a good opportunity to expose the younger generation folks to their speakers.

The lack of human touch and price increase will hurt Klipsch with the HP-3.

Well, this really pisses me off, and probably saves me 12 benjamins as well.

Seriously? Seen more maturity in a nursery daycare. This is all on Klipsch.

I was referring to the argument he had with a Head-fi member was what got him fired by klipsch in a joking manner, but Marv already said that wasn't it soon after. No need for the insult.

I present this with a heavy heart because of what happened to Steve, but the show must go on. Last thing Steve told me was that we wanted this product to be successful.

Here are the effects of venting, putting two different sized strips of foam / felt under the pads. This technique was brought to my attention by @dBel84 who used it on Audeze headphones. I didn't present this before because I would have considered it somewhat disrepectful to the HP-3 design team. However, hearing that this was an option from the designer(s) at RMAF (was it Vlad?) to reduce bass, I figured it that would be OK to proceed. Also, before Steve was canned, he mentioned they were considering a slight retune to reduce the bass.

Note small strips of foam and felt to create a vent under the earpads.

    Hi Marvey,

This is a terrible news. I was waiting eagerly for this to come out. An fun open back with a good bass response...
Why do they want to go that way ? To sound like all the competition ?

Even with a bit of retuned bass, that wouldn't be a huge deal. It would still have a good bass response. The issue is...you don't want to sacrifice the rest of that sound JUST for that. We already have the THx00 that does that exact thing.

The gist of it was a few db. Personally, I prefer the HP-3 with the 3-4db drop in the bass per the orange or red lines. Even after doing this, it's nothing at all near the HD650 or X00 even. Seriously, I think need you guys need to line up HD650 or X00 graphs.

Interesting points, because I owned the THX00 and sold them quite soon after.

They were not comfortable enough for me and I found them to be lacking in the bass department quality wise. More fatiguing than overwhelming. And treble killed it for me.
I preferred the Meze 99 for full bassy sound, but my daily driver is the Shure 1540.

I'll look into the HD650 or the new 660.

Shit like this does not inspire me to support Klipsch & their (now) over-priced headphone.

This. But at the same time, there are two sides to every story, and we barely know one...

It is what it is. Paul Klipsch is dead. Klipsch is now owned by Voxx Intl. They are traded on NASDAQ. They haven't been doing too well with the brands that they have acquired.

It's like this everywhere and for some time now. Look at Harmon. I have this word "Harmonize". Steve got harmonized at Klipsch. Just as my friend Craig got harmonized at UREI/JBL decades ago. Didn't a bunch of AKG guys get harmonized recently too?

Was really torn between the HP-3 and the ZMF auteur. This makes my decision a lot easier.

Steve was going to offer a SBAF special deal to folks who posted in this thread, positive or negative.
