Has anyone tried their Echo's end DAC? It sounds amazing and parts quality is way above the schiit Yggdrasil as well. I haven't heard the Yggdrasil myself but am wondering if anyone has any thoughts about this here. http://www.lessloss.com/echos-end-p-218.html

Which parts exactly are "way above the Yggdrasil"?

Found an internal pic. Looks like they're using Soekris boards. What are you paying for here exactly?

5K is a bit bonkers for a single board Soekris affair. It will be good, if they've added a decent PSU and a new set of filters, but that's 700$ in parts at best.

Lessloss? The same company that makes the Blackbody "ambient field conditioner"?? Look... just... no. I'm willing to accept some pseudoscience and cable talk here and there, but I draw the line at absolute quackery. Stuff like that doesn't doesn't just bring down the SNR, it's utter poison.

Somehow I feel like I was reading an 6moons article when I visited the product page.

Given the price, I can buy Yggdrasil Dac, Mutec MC3+ USB, Audiophile usb cable, Audiophile grade digital interconnect, AC power conditioner and still have money left for Ikea Aptitlig bamboo butcher's block as base.

The power supply performance of the Soekris DAC boards will always be capped by the internal PWM supplies, has anything been done by Lessloss audio to remedy this?

The original Soekris DAC board requires no output stage. Extra buffering electronics are there for differential signalling, has Lessloss audio developed their own balanced conversion circuit or have they stuck to the stock opamps?

Which revision Soekris boards are being used in the end product? If unmodified or made to operate without a muting circuit, the early boards will output a potentially damaging transient on shutdown. Speakers and amplifiers have been destroyed by this.

Can you link the pic of the internals where you saw it? Just curious how you guessed it was a soekris board etc

:D Oh man, this thread gave me a good chuckle this morning. If I slapped some maple veneer on my Yggdrasil do you think I could resell it for $5k?

An incredibly bold statement found on the product page. Does it mean that the standard Sokeris dac board is capable of beating even dCS and MSB dacs?

There's no reason why it shouldn't. I shilled the DAM board back in the pirate days, Pridiik did a shootout with Yggdrasil and neither came on top too distinctly. I think that MisterRogers also built and liked one as well.

The board itself is a cool platform for the adventurous DIY'er to kit out and with right massaging it probably can outpunch the Yggdrasil by a hair. I just don't think that plonking it into a wooden box warrants the price tag.
