Oh interesting! I hear it as about 15' in front of me at about 11 o clock because it's kind of echo-ey. Sounds like a plastic cup falling to the floor. :)

Maybe we are 180 degrees out of phase from each other. ;-). Plastic cup is a good description. Also, that depth is back after first impressions with LPS had me discombobulated.

Update: Over a month without a fan in the chassis, and not breaking a sweat. From time to time I put my hand on the top of the chassis around the vent holes I drilled, and have yet to feel the slightest hint of warmth.

Still happy that E22 runs cool? I am considering one for Yggdrasil/BW. I can buy this enclosure locally but it appears to have next to no ventilation, apart from the PCI slots themselves...

That seems like a good option bruv. I killed the fan on mine and it's never had a problem either. Never detect any heat from it at all.

With the new Mac laptops that have that USB-C/Thunderbolt port going on, will there only need to be a new cable purchase to be able to use this setup?

As long as it accepts a full size card, it'll be fine. I drilled vent holes in mine, which might not have even been necessary.

I have this exact enclosure. I disconnected the fan right when I got it, and after running the E22 for about a month now, I haven't detected the slightest bit of heat. It's cool as a cucumber.

@jowls - I have the Sonnet. It does have a fan on the bottom of the unit, and it's a little louder than I would like. Not terrible, but noticeable.

@johnjen Asking the question here: Have you made an AES-only breakout cable for the Lynx E22?

    Oh right!

Does it sound any better than the Sync Cable, or did you ever have that one?

Maybe, but actually I didn't really do it for sound. I disliked the bulky breakout cable. My cable doesn't sound worse. :)

Using the E22 for analog out as a stopgap.

Less bad than expected. Soundstage is pretty solid. It's incredibly neutral.

It's missing the organic fullness of sound that R-2R is so good at but it's super clean.

Two questions, i apologize if either is covered in the other thread as im still reading through that.
    http://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/lynx-pcie-aes-interfaces-aes16-and-e22.2762/

Planning to order an E22 tomorrow... as far as i can tell from the manual is that the digital I/O on the E22 is user switchable via jumpers on the card from AES to spidf, would this mean with the lynx sync cable i'd be able to hook up a spidf cable via one of the bnc connectors and run straight to my dac? Or would i still need one of those sescom AES to BNC transformers from the xlr on the sync cable?
Secondly, as far as you guys making your own cables... how were you able to identify the pin outs? Dissecting one of the lynx sync cables? Still looking for info online..

    Thanks!

    1. Yes.
    2. Pin out is on page 49 of the manual.
