Yes. But only if you don’t mind immediately voiding the warranty.

If sonic improvements are significant then it's probably worth it (for me).

ZDT Jr in house now. Friday / Sat set aside for measurements. For now I'll just enjoy listening (when I have free moments away from corporate crap) thank-you. Initial impression ... I'm glad I'm in the drop. GE tubes ordered.

@atomicbob I assume you have the GE tubes from Marv already. If not I have a pair in house I can send to you.

Breathing a little easier. Looking forward to impressions and measurements. I’m in the drop. And in the doghouse for “forgetting” to tell my resident account about it.

Marv included the GE tubes with the loaner. I want a set for my unit when it ships next year based on what I have experienced so far. Measurements will be based on GE driver tubes.

Based on what Marv said about the stock tubes I ordered mine when the drop was announced. Black Friday Special. Your measurements being based on the GE tubes gives me another data point. Thanks.

Oh on the contrary. I know what they like. Usually. Just moar confused than I normally am . Conflicted data. BTW I did order the tubes in November on faith in Sundry Acessory. :p:p:D:D:punk:.

I think we cross-posted where you mentioned buying the tubes on black Friday, I got 2 pairs or $8; how much cheaper can they be? Yes, Sir Sundry Accessory left the easter egg and I ordered those, hopefully those are the ones (they're tiny). I offered mine up to the east coasters but so far Zonto is the only one who wants them, maybe now they will want to hear ZDT Jr with them.

When making observations I think we should try to keep in perspective the price point.
We cant be judging everything based on a "EC Studio" level amp.

At both it's price point and size,
This amp is one of very few small tube amps that are not going the cheaper hybrid route,
and inteasd choosing a more purist design by using output transformers and triode amplification instead of solid state.
The Only other "mini" tube amp that is doing similar, is the APPJ PA1502 that I own...
Wait till you guys start tube rolling..

@Marvey would need to confirm, but I believe in the rear stage (I forget which that is), it's 6N24P, 6FC7, and ECC89 that work. In the front, it's the 6Zh1P, 6AK5, 5654, and EF95, though I am not sure if the amp requires the extended ratings versions of these tubes. They're listed as direct equivalents on Wikipedia, but I'm not sure if that's really completely accurate.

I believe the driver tubes are easier to find than the ECC89 in the back. I didn't bother with ECC89. Good enough with the GEs in front and life is too short to listen to tubes.

Yes, the ECC89s don't pop up too often. Driver tubes are plentiful. I was lucky to find reasonably priced ECC89s when I looked, so I figured why not. I just hope they are indeed direct equivalents and safe long-term. Can't always trust Wikipedia. :)

I found some Mullard ECC89’s last night. Reasonable price. Of course I can’t find them tonight. Everything I found along with Wikipedia indicated they are direct equivalents. But who trusts the Internet. Proceed with caution. Lots of Russian equivalents. Can they all suck ass?

I think those that haven't heard it yet should not get too wrapped around mods and tube rolling outside of the recommended GE driver tube. There is a lot to like about this amp without heading into tweakland.
