monaural playback on demand, how do i configure?

there are many stereo recordings from back in the day that sound like schiit, the lead (vocal or instrumental) is only in one channel and the sonic balance is way off for headphones. not a good time to be had by all.

on the desktop: software stack: the latest JRiver, lossless files, hardware stack: Schiit Lyr 2, Bifrost multibit.

MrsForBin went into the DSP Studio settings for me and selected mono playback with the error message "your hardware doesn't support this."

please help, there are Coltrane records that are even worse than the Doris Day i am listening to.

 

JRMC 22.0.74 and the ASIO drivers I'm using have an odd interaction, but this is what I use:

I've spent a lot of time trying to find a solution for these hard panned stereo recordings to be listenable on headphones.
Sonarworks has a "mono monitoring" button that works on the fly and does the job, but adding on Waves NX really did the final trick for me and I now don't feel the need for a mono mixdown anymore.

where my head has been lately is far, far away. @Lightbulb Sun this works perfectly. however i even named it, how do i turn it on and off?

(yes, i am more than likely a complete idiot. please indulge.)

 

I haven't been able to get Mono playback using JRiver alone. The setup above is close but not center image, slightly left of center. Maybe due to sequential processing causing a slight time delay which will make it impossible to have a perfect center image.

 

Ticking the "Parametric Equalizer" checkbox will enable it (you may need to Load your desired & saved preset); and unticking the same checkbox will disable it.
