For me this was a nice song on a mostly enjoyable album until I saw this live version. I find this live version incredibly moving. Bono buried his father a week earlier and this was a fitting tribute to his old man. U2 fans are all too aware of the typical cringe worthy moments of earnestness that Bono can be guilty of from time to time... this is different. Even if you aren't a fan, try to watch this until the "I'm a man I'm not a child, I'm a man who sees the shadow behind your eyes" line.

These things get very personal and may be less a musical thing. But this one for me, for personal reasons:

Eyes welled up like a baby the first time I heard this unexpected collaboration between two choral groups from Oxford and Soweto:

Thanks for this. I had never heard of these guys and have listened to 3 of their recordings so far. Sort of a Joy Division/New Order/Depeche Mode amalgam with the vocals of a more monotone and refined Richard Butler from the Psychedelic Furs. I like this a lot.

Nice, the guys that like VNV Nation tend to be pretty devoted followers. I've known them for probably over 20 years and they were always a pretty obscure band for a long time. I think the song "illusion" made it to MTV and that was probably their breakthrough into a bigger audience, at least it was the first of their songs that I can remember that made it to MTV. But they were never big like Depeche Mode were, they have however gained a larger and larger following in the last 5-8 years and we can probably thank the internet for that. Some of their older albums such as "future perfect" and "empires" are starting to hold an almost legendary status in certain circles. The song "Illusion" was also the credits song for the recent game Hellblade, a highly acclaimed action-rpg about psychosis.

Sometimes you cannot talk anymore. The grudges stay and while you may not take revenge you can never let that person come near you again.

So we were talking about Depeche Mode earlier. And indeed we were.. respect where respect is due.

Transcendent is the only word to describe this recording of the Tallis Fantasia with Barborolli.

I wholeheartedly agree with @Skyline above

Sufjan Stevens is able to capture so much emotion in all of his music. I just came across the live version of Carrie and Lowell, just watch and listen, enough said.

I saw him live at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville for his Carrie and Lowell tour. Only concert I've ever cried at.
