That's a discussion for sociologists. Many might agree the purpose is still the same.

He may be a little manic and excitable (like me) but I genuinely like the guy and think he's well motivated.

Thanks for the reply. I might be able to listen to the SINE and the Ether Flow next week. Do you think I can infer from the Ether Flow the sound of the AEON?

Yeah I don't care anything about being current either unless it's some sort of radical technological breakthrough that noticeably improves a headphone/amp/source component's ability to reproduce music. That being said, it's really, really good to see reasonably priced offerings from any manufacturer that nonetheless look and perform at a premium level.

This is the only headphone I'm only really real interested in. I'd love to have it as a loaner.

I have one on order. I can put it on loan unless I really hate it and need to sell it fast or like it too much to lend out. FYI in case you want to wait.

$800 is a lot of money IMO. But price-wise it's better pricing than anything Dan has put out so far, with the exception of his Mad Dogs (which I still think are expensive).

    Hope these headphones don't suck.

I do wish him success, and perhaps maybe one day Dan will release a good sounding, well made and consistent headphone for less than $300.

This is hopefully a start. Time will say.

I liked the Mad Dogs v 3.81 and especially the Mad Dog Pros.

Yes. Mad Dogs were my favorite Dan-Cans. They had a nice relaxing signature. They had ballz. And the pricing was not that crazy.

Is it bad that I can't tell if the version number is a joke or if he legitimately got that high? I'd be annoyed but grudgingly accept software that kept releasing minor updates to "fix" issues, but on a hardware product that needs to be sent in for upgrades each time? yeah... no.

Dan does indeed need to get away from versioning headphones and only release finished, stable, and sample-to-sample-consistent products.

It's a start. If it sounds really decent, it's a step in the right direction. Stuff has been failing to get that much better, yet still cost a lot more or late, so any move to break the cycle of fuckery is welcome. I think a lot of people will want to hear them, anyway.

Edit: Also, everything that @ultrabike says- he's bang on the money in this thread.

I have added a black dotted line to the frequency graph. This is what I believe could be the ideal target response. I have scaled it and adjusted it to Tyll's measurements. I sometimes don't agree with the compensation used and it is not easy to make out the actual raw measurements. It is somewhere among the grey lines.

    Anyway, still looks very promising.

There are more ways to make money than getting an inflated benefit in a short period of time.
You can't buy a good reputation, a successful business is a marathon, not a short sprint.

He saw a niche market, and reduced his profit margin to deliver a product to capitalize that niche.
    Very clever decision.
