I wanted to check if there are any current murfie users around to see their opinion about the state of it currently. I used to use Murfie about 2 years ago when they had a great deal on it, basically your subscription fees would essentially reduce the price of every purchase you make thus paying for itself. However I stopped using it when they introduced their new pricing where the gold membership doubled in price ( the one I used) and no longer subsidizes the price of a recording.

P.S - anyone who does not know what my ravings are about can read this quick primer from audiostream- http://www.audiostream.com/content/murfie-new-home-your-cds-cloud#TWWZddGDX1AToz43.97
the prices mentioned in this article are the older scheme which has been changed now.

I don't pay for any membership tiers but I tried it out recently to get an album. You said that the membership doesn't subsidize the cost of the discs but on their website right now it says: "Join our Murfie Gold buyers club to save $1.99 on every disc you buy." It looks like the 1.99 savings is just waiving the price to rip it to flac for you so it is a savings if that's what you wanted to do.

After trying out a Murfie purchase I think in the end I'd just rather buy the CD and rip it myself but there's the possibility I'd use it again once I move overseas.

So this "archiving/ripping" charge of $1.99 was started when the payment structure was changed, the previous plan basically reduced the price of each disc you buy by $1 and ripping was free. The payments plans were changed quite radically at the time. I am debating using it again at this point, perhaps I will take a month and then decide. In my opinion a gold membership is essential if you are going to use it regularly.
    Thank you for your input.

I'd much rather have a better music locker so I can upload my own rips instead of shipping my physical media for someone else to rip and then ship back to me.

Yeah I agree that the shipping thing is antiquated. I feel that the shipping thing is for people to use when they don't have space to store them physically anymore. For my use, the interesting part is the ability to buy FLAC files by essentially "owning the CD".

Wait, they don't even ship the disc back? I'm very confused about what this service is actually offering.

They keep the cd, but you "own" it. If you want a flac rip of the cd you bought it's $1.99. Or you can pay for gold membership and flac (or other format) ripping is free. You can also get the cd shipped to you for a fee. I use it for hard to find cds so don't mind spending $1.99 once or twice a year.

Hello everyone! It seems like there is a bit of confusion about our service so I wanted to post and help answer any questions people might have. Our standard service allows our members to send us their collection of CDs, vinyl or cassettes which we then digitize and store in our warehouse or ship back to them. Our main focus is to be the CD player / turntable / cassette deck for your high end audio system at home, your car, your phone, etc. Unlike any other service out there, we allow you to host your collection with us, maintain ownership and get unlimited access to lossless files from your CD, cassette or vinyl rips.

The Gold subscription waives the $1.99 fee for shop purchases and the HiFi subscription allows for lossless streaming on capable devices while providing the buyer's club benefits of a Gold subscription.

We currently don't have the framework to allow members to upload their own content to be stored in our cloud but we hope to add that as a feature in the future.

If you guys have any questions feel free to get in touch with us directly by emailing us at [email protected]
