Does anyone know if Genelec 8040/8050 has class AB amplification?

8010, 8020 and 8030 have class D, but I can't find info on the others.

Douk Audio sell a passive balanced preamp on the 'bay for $52 + shipping from China. Don't know if it is any good, but could be worth looking into.

I think all the older models were class a/b; it's only the recently released revisions that have switched to class D.

Has anyone got KEF LS50W speakers on desk setup?

Was going to get LS50 passive speaker but new LS50W looks a lot better on spec with lots of components cramped inside (Dual/Mono amp, Preamp, twin DAC and wireless connectivity etc). Price is quite a bit but value seems not too bad given all those new Add-Ons and eliminate all of external power amp, preamp, and dac etc.

Given all those features and add-ons, is it still not good buy comparing other speakers in the marketplace such as Dynaudio, Focal and Elac?

Have anyone here auditioned the ME Geithain RL906 ? Seems to be well-regarded in gearslutz community but little information otherwise. I'm consider replacing my SCM7 with them, but wondering if there is much improvements.

Oh-so-nearly. But I walked on past the shop :(o_O.

Hope to be able to read your impressions!

There's a Sound on Sound review that's worth reading. I'll add the link if I find it before you do. (done)

I have heard from the rl906 that they might be bit "ported" sounding. I know a gearslutz user prefered amphion one15 over rl906. amphion would be worth a try.
the scm7v3, which I also have, are good allrounder, I prefer P3ESR more though. the p3esr midrange is really special but very spl limited. imnsho, they need a good highpass but worth a try as well... the harbeth p3esr xo point is 3.5khz, the atc or amphion is around 2khz. the coherency of the harbeth midrange is likely due to no xo up to 3.5khz and the radial driver is a very good driver.

id also try proac sm100 or similar proac.

I tried my ATC SCM20 with a highpass in JRiver's dsp, but did not like it. I'm not sure if that's just the weakness of the built-in dsp though.

I was just experimenting with chopping out the bottom end; thinking perhaps the mids would be cleaner if the speaker weren't trying to push the lows. I tried a few spots and different slopes, even well below any content in the music, but they all negatively affected the sound. I assumed that it was something in the math that was affecting the rest of the sound.

my highpass is fisrt order passive, built in my diy pass b1 preamp.

I tried minidsp and hated the sound. I use no digital volume control, no dsp in my systems , never liked the sound of it

Agreed, it gives everything an empty3 sort of grain/fuckery.
I have to admit though that equilibrium on insane settings comes close.

I have a similar issue when taking measurements in REW and then trying to really tame my speakers' response in this room. I find that backing off on the adjustments (only allowing upto +3 or -6dB gains) and limit any changes I make to <500 Hz allows for positive changes without too much unnaturalness

What? A near fielder with two woofers on some tiny mosaic tiles?

No, those happen to be 12"ers.

2x12" woofers usually have more surface area than one 15" woofer. How do they sound?

See... I'd wanna put a grill on that, turn it on it's side, put some cushions on top and make myself a couch.

Need to finish up the second one. So far it's going according to plan, in other words - it sounds insane. Sims told me 114dB at 22Hz should be possible, so far they're spot on.

Oh, and 2x12" usually have more coil to move all of that area. Initially I was planning on having one 15", but this way made me save 200EUR per box for the same specs.

    You're one thump away from...

In all fairness it's easier to hit the brown note when you sit on it.
