Good point. Can't hurt to ask. Thanks.

@Ryanr1987 Are you sticking with the original NH and original pads? Or are will you do any pad rolling?

I'm sticking with the Nighthawk classic with stock pads. I don't like the Boost pads that much they add an unnaturaness to the upper end.

I also find the newer NHC or Boost pads to lose sub bass at the extremes and also some impact. While these changes are not as huge as I may make it seem, it's enough for me to keep my classic Hawks instead.

Wow, that's one rambling and hand-waving "review". The SNR was poor, you could have said more than that in a fifth of the words. I still feel none the wiser about how the damned things actually perform, too.

(Is that @Cellist88's alter ego? :D)

Between the Nighthawk and HD650, I think I can sit pretty untill the pricewars gets sorted. Just to be clear HD650M is not the same as HD650K right?

I somewhat agree about the style, but it's still a better read than the cookie cutter reviews these days. ie bass, mids, treble conclusion

They're loose local slang for more or less the same thing. HD650M generically means "modded", normally in the older style, and HD650K usually means "KISS modded", a variant. You can find plenty of info on both via a search.

I hope people don't use them interchangeably. There is enough difference in the process that they deserve their own identification, IMO.

I'm very interested on the new Nighthawk Carbon, especially with the included Ultrasuede pads, since it's said to reduce the bass hump.
Will wait some time for a ex-demo unit, as I love the new black color and don't like the original.

Also, will try to DIY the Kevin Gilmore transconducance amp, as Nighthawk impedance is low and totally flat, this amp should be the absolute best for them (and not uberly expensive!).

What a wonderful hobby is this :)

My original question was rather poorly expressed. I have understood the M variant is based on some work by solderdudefranz and input form others. The KISS mod is a variant of that. This was the reason I was asking Deep Funk since it appears the KISS mod trims the bass a bit compared to the original mods. My stock HD650 have more of a midbass hump than the Nighthawks, so I am hoping that he would open up a bit more on his thoughts.

Ask @trung225 and you know enough. His audio system with the modified HD650 was so good that @Serious really auditioned it.

Trung's system was pretty end game if you ask me.
