Thank you for the info. Maybe those people who know Fang can talk him off the ledge. Some of us have been waiting for a true HE6 successor for a while and this seems to be it, pity about the price. I've also been having these conversations with IEM manufacturers, for example. Once upon a time $1.6K for a flagship (SE5 Ultimate) would have been sky high, but now it actually looks moderate. But what can you do? These guys try another $4K headphone, think 'mine is better', and thinks, 'I probably have to price mine higher to show that's what it's worth'. That's mistaken, and perhaps we can try and show him that there are other indications of quality other than price.

I specifically remember the lcd impressions thread being crapped out and locked fast. And it didn't started the same way as this one, MP can vouch for it. Other brands being given diffuse crap here and there, fine, I most likely added my contribution at the time. But do we need a specific thread to convey the idea ? I think not. I've been around a while, and we have always taken for granted that members of the community were smart enough to piece things together when it comes to bad rep.

Jason's pics have been informative at the time, I'm proud of being able to call him a friend, and I saw those pics before and at the time of the posting. That's what I want to see here, i.e. substantiated and founded opinion, not random bitching.

I'm not going to ask you to re read my posts, we both have better things to do, but as I said I didn't wait for this uneventful release to scrap HFM from my list of potential upgrade. And I'll happily agree to disagree that at this price trying is enough.

Now it seems my posting of Trump's video has stirred you the wrong way. Not being an US citizen, it's not my place to judge who you decide to elect, as I stated. In my personal culture, that's a rather unpolite thing to do. I was merely making a parallel between this obviously parodic video, and the repetitive noise coming from this thread.

Please consider my posts as a rant from the typical long timer seating at the bar.

 

Fang is definitely not proud of improving the built quality and reliability of his products. He is more proud of himself no longer to work hard, but still having loyal fans paying for his shitty built products.

Basically Fang said it is bullshit suggesting he still have to work hard maintaining his success, nowadays he spends most of his time raising kids at home and spend 1.5 hour everyday in gym, living an easy life.

Raising kids at home, spending 1.5 hour in gym everyday and charging US$6,000 for his shitty built upcoming flagship product is definitely not guilty, but pretending to be humble in front of his foreign customers with an innocent face in every head-fi / innerfidelity video is.

I am Chinese, own a HE-500 (bought used), but for sure I won't buy another HIFIMAN product.

 

Fang is clearly being very emotional there, and it seems he's also responding to the "chi-fi" mentally. Lots of racially charged words. Situations like this make everyone look bad.

But he did say that this Edition 6 has been under research for four years and that he would put it ip against any headphone sound-wise. Anyhow I would be curious as to how it compares to the HE6.

 

Thing is, it really looks like a headphone for the rich Chinese businessman market, rather than the "nerdily descriminating listener" segment. It's for people who don't have time in their busy lifestyle to make informed decisions about quality, but want shiny status symbols that they can point to as "the best", and be sure that people know that it was expensive. It will sound pretty good, to the uneducated ear (if it doesn't fall apart), but it will be far from the best- which is inevitably some scabby-looking pair of cans that some obsessive has spent ages measuring and tweaking, post-purchase, while endlessly seeking synergies with their chain.

In a way, that's totally fine- if that's what Fang wants to do- he's livin' the dream, and it's a large, rich market. We might bridle at the dishonest marketing claiming it's something that we might want, though- and that's the bit that maybe sticks in the craw somewhat.

Just remind yourself that they're status symbols for rich, busy Chinese guys who don't know much about audio, but a lot about status, and then feel the tension draining away. If your headphone budget is massive and you need to deplete it, there are people around here who can steer you right if you're trying for maximum sound justice.

Of course, if the impossible happens, and it genuinely is the best sound evar, then god damn, but I'm not going to hold my breath for that.

 

The only reason they unveiled the 6k headphones because people were buying 3k and 5k headphones. If I ever needed a proof to abandon this stupid game here it is. I actually was planning to sell some of my headphones to try and buy HE1000. Not anymore, as far as I am concerned Hifiman, Focal etc could be in the fertilizer business from now on. With my AK240DF, Hifiman 500, HD800S, and T5p.2 I wil be fine for many years to come without paying any attention to the bs.

This is the part I don't really understand: Any "rich Chinese businessman who want shiny status symbols" definitely would not buy a shitty built HIFIMAN headphone. They will buy a diamond clad Utopia.

Fang's target market is the "reasonably riched Chinese nationalist" group who got excited every time they are told China now has the J-20, the DF-26 countering the F-22 and US carriers. Fang mentioned a lot "US Imperialism" and implied "buying foreign products is being slave of imperialism " in his posts.

If I am a rich Chinese business man, I will feel ashamed being seen using Fang's product in front of my rich friends.
