I got it, I did not try to twist it, just did not fully understand what he was saying.
OK so between Modi Multibit and Bifrost Multibit, it is Modi Multibit. And it would be the end of it if not for the fact that I visited my friend this morning and listened to Gungnir (non-multibit) on his setup. I have to say that my appetite for Schiit is growing.

@k4rstar is this just a rumour for now? Has Schiit announced any "unknown" new development? (if there's any thread on this feel free to link it if you have it at hand, I couldn't find anything)

Edit: Thank you very much !

Edit no. 2: Oh boy, imagine the endless possibilities...

Buying a DAC again. I had Emotiva DC-1 in my two channel setup going to two bridged Bryston 2B amps but sold after a warranty repair. 2B PL have only XLR inputs and I narrowed down to three options:

used Bryston BD1-1 - around US$750 - I habe BDA-2 in my headphone setup so this would be very reliable option but a bit boring
Lake People RS 06 - $800 after 10% discount they are offering, I have never heard this DAC, but has interesting reviews.
Gungnir Multibit = $1249 which is more than I want to pay for what I need this DAC for.

I heard Gungnir Multibit and Bryston BDA-1 although have not been able to compare them at the same time.

If you listened to RS 06 and ideally if you can compare it with the other two, please help or maybe suggest alternatives.

Since you've already eliminated the Gungnir MB due to price, is this just a longer-winded way of asking for help choosing between the other two?

Good god, that Lake People RS-06 has got to be one of the ugliest pieces of audio equipment I've seen.

    In your price range:

I own their dac1541, which I'm quite happy with, as it gets fairly close to DACs twice its price (which I also own for other systems).

Why not just go with the standard Gungnir? I haven't heard the other DACs, but it doesn't appear that they are multibit, so I can't see how the Gungnir would be at any real disadvantage.

The Holo Audio Cyan is $989, but I am unclear the exact budget target.

Edit: $1079 to include headphone output w/ PCM module is the version I use.

That's the DSD-only no-headamp version. PCM version is > $1K. Once you get to that price level, Gungnir Multibit or Soekris dac1541 become contenders.

Thank you all, I just found out that tomorrow evening my found allocation for a new DAC may increase significantly. So my decision making process, painful as it has been, has to be suspended for 24 hours. But I already started dreaming ...:p ....
