@Alonso - Mjolnir 2 (you lucky dogg)
I've assumed it would match with the ZMF's dynamic HPs, there's only a few comments on the internet :/
Hello. Have been registered for months and have been reading as much as possible.
Both a headphone listener with a set up in my home office and 2 channel set ups throughout the house. Listen to most genres. I am not one who will offer much in terms of impressions as good as most on this site, but maybe with time that will change. I am more of a learner at the moment listening to music every change I get.
I read a while back on one of the advice threads I believe to never sell the 650 and that I would eventually just buy it again. Well I sold it and have bought it again. So obviously some good advice on this forum...
I've been lurking here for a bit. Lurked HF for many years (but don't post much) and have done some buying/selling on the forums there.
I've been "into audio" my whole life. My dad introduced me to his sl1200 and marantz when i was very young, and i still remember the first time i heard the opening of Black Sabbath's self titled like it was yesterday. It change my life in more ways than one. I've been into analog audio ever since.
I'm a network and systems engineer in the high frequency trading industry, so i have a little bit of electrical knowledge and understand DSPs and things like that pretty well for someone who isn't "classically trained" in it. My main area of expertise is ensuring that market data makes it around the world to feed algorithms as fast as is physically possible with photons and electrons, so i understand the place where 1s and 0s meet the physical world quite intimately .
I'm OK with a soldering iron, and I generally make all of my own cables and try to do as much DIY stuff as I feel comfortable with (with small challenges here and there to increase my skill). I'm definitely no EE though, so I'm not really suited to building power amps and the like, although I've replaced some caps and things like that here and there when there are VERY clear instructions/BOMs etc. I have a decent physics foundation and generally really enjoy learning about it and how it applies to my field/hobbies, so I have done lots of reading on Power, Phono, DAC, and AMP technology fundamentals etc. (just trying to lay out that I don't intend to post woefully ignorant and ambiguous questions here.....i like to do my own research and ask the most articulate and narrow question i can, whether it be about my hobbies or my line of work).
Anyway, I'm mostly signing up here because i will have a few questions to ask in the coming months as I being to make the next big step in my audio journey from the world of tube amps and planars to SS and electrostatics. I'm still doing research on various things and lurking here pretty hard to do background reading from the amazing wealth of knowledge and experience found in these pages. I look forward to being able to contribute my own data (whatever it may be) to help others as I continue my audio journey.
EDIT: Here is my setup since I see that alot of other people post that...
*All of my interconnect and headphone cables were made myself with Cardas cable of various gauges/braids.*
Pro-Ject RPM 1.3 with acrylic platter (also JA Mitch clamp and a custom outer-ring weight a la VPI)
Ortofon 2M Black
Pro-Ject Speed Box S
Pro-Ject Phono Box RS (with aftermarket PSU)
Yaquin MS-12B (with NOS mullard 12AX7 & 12AU7....this needs a new home)
FIIO X7 with the balanced amp and a 256GB SD (this + Oppo have revolutionized my life tbh)
Oppo PM-3 with a balanced cable
ON THE WAY IN:
KGSSHV Carbon (still sitting in box cause i'm moving soon)
STAX SR-007 (still trying to decide on exact version, but will likely go black mk2 SZ3 with mods once I see a good deal on one)
ON THE WAY OUT:
Little Dot MK VI+ with NOS Mullard ECC32 and 6080 tubes (selling this to my BFF)
Hifiman HE560 (with balanced cable and all that, also selling this to my BFF)
Audio-GD NFB-28 (will need a new home once I upgrade)
Grado SR225 (with bocote wood cups, just sent these to my dad with a FIIO dac for his birthday)
Turbulent X Magnums (with MartinCustomAudio cups and my own 2x Cardas 4x24 balanced cable....looking to sell these actually)
IBasso D6 "Fer-de-Lance" (with a Top Flight kit for pairing with DT770s that I used to have....looking to sell this actually)
I was MartinCustomAudio's last order before he fell of the face of the earth. He has my first pair of HE560s that he was gonna install beautiful wood cups and mini XLRs in......that was like 2 years ago.
Welcome. Is that by chance an Ampsandsound amp you have in your avatar?
Yes it's the Mogwai. Enjoying the option to use it in a 2 channel system. I'm actually looking for a second tube amp with speaker taps for another room, but haven't researched enough just yet to see what other options are out there.
Thank you sir! I dig your avatar. DT is one of my favorite bands. The first time my best friend and I listened to the represses of IAW and SFAM on my rig we both teared up from the sheer prog beauty.

Hi all, I should have done this a while ago I have been reading a lot here. Lots of great info.
I am new to this audiophile thing. But I love it so far.
I live in New York. I found an old pair of denon headphones I had, it just spiraled into a new found passion. I tried a portable amp for my iPhone, then, bought a schiit Modi 2 uber and a Magni 2 uber and akg Q701.
Then the Asgard 2 and Bifrost Multibit . I also bought a new Sennheiser HD800 S. Recently sold my bifrost, and bought an Yggdrasil!
wow so awesome you got the Yggy and HD800s - I am so jealous! Congrats @sbninja , great setup!
I have been lurking more or less for the last year, since I first found the site during some audio related research. I have tried to get more in to the hobby, since I slowed down on the PC gaming.
Also made it to the last couple meets in the Seattle area, just to get a chance to learn more.
My current gear:
DT990 600 Ohm
Bimby + Sunrise III amp with a talema linear power supply (thanks to AtomicBob for the suggestion)
And currently looking to upgrade the Bimby to either a Gumby or Yggy.
You guys have a good thing going keep it up!
welcome @abraxas666 ! Nice setup you have there! Enjoy the forums!
Always nice to find more folks interested in music and audio gear!
Looking to add some Vinyl to my system and ended up here and a few other places
Browsed through the beginner vinyl thread for a while and wanted to ask a couple of questions.
I don't have anything exotic, just some good standard gear.
NAD C315 Integrated Amplifier
Woo Audio WA6
Some old DIY DAC that I bought from someone named Mr Bryant or something on HF a long time ago. Sounds good to me...
Visited Head-Fi on and off really for probably a decade now.
Welcome to the forums everyone!
Been lurking for a couple months
I've very recently gotten a Schiit stack Mimby and Jot in black. Got TH-X00 PH, Monoprice 1060, mee p1 and the noble x.
I've had an account for a little while now, I guess I'll finally post.
I have a background in mathematics and computer science, and enjoy a lot of vintage equipment.
Hi all, I thought I should post here since I keep getting the "ARE YOU NEW HERE?" banners telling me to introduce myself, and also having already posted in a For Sale thread and one other thread now too (oops sorry!).
I'm a music lover from the UK, been into audio gear since I was 10 years old (first valve / tube amp, big speaker - mono system, old Garrard turntable) so yes, I'm knocking on a bit age wise! Given that (and the fact I play guitar and bass, appreciate good acoustic instrument based music) have lived through the reel to reel tape, FM tuner, turntable and then into digital audio playback scene. And looking for the closest thing to real sound in my living space (lounge, office, bedroom etc).
One of my early real hi end sound experiences was a friend of mine's (whose Dad part owned a professional audio manufacturer) Quad based system - amps and ESL speakers, Revox tape deck with some commercial reel to reel albums, quite rare even in those days, but amazing sound that left a lasting impression.
So my journey has ended up where today I'm mainly using digital sources (streaming / music server) with a multi room set up using Squeezebox based players with decent DAC's into various systems:
1) the lounge with a Squeezebox based DAP into a Differential Discrete DAC (Dual 18 bit / channel, Vishay's top resistors, hand made, customer boards with custom filtering code, no active output devices bar a high quality transformer, all designed by a very clever engineer in our audio club) into 300B valve amps ("tubes" to you outside of the UK!) and driving huge front horn speakers (AER drivers - one of the Voxativ forerunners) and dipole bass (2 x AE 15" drivers with class D amps 200hz downwards). Also a Garrard 401 turntable, slate plinth, Unipivot arm and valve phono stage, for the 2,000 plus records.
2) office with again an SB player into a PCM1704 based DAC (a Yggdrasil is now on its way!) into Focal nearfield monitor speakers. Various headphone amps (OTL valve, JFET SS etc) into a few different headphones, HD800 the favourite at the moment.
Various other systems and portable set-ups which include brands most people will have heard of. Chord, Sennheiser, FIIO, Sony JBL and loads lesser known too.
So why SBAF??
I came here when I found the SuperDupont Resonator for my HD800, referred from Inner Fidelity to one Sorrodje here!
And having been very satisfied with the SDR I lurked and read hundreds of pages here, and found myself quite drawn to the place. Some fellow Brits, some fellow Discrete DAC fans, similar music tastes, musicians too. And also a growing fascination for what seems to be an obsession with all things Schiit, to try and work out if its all justified or not!!
And so given my own preferences (and prejudices?!) I'm curious enough (liking the philosophy of the main guys at Schiit) to give a few of their things a try to see how I like them. Obviously a like of all things R2R and dislike of most (all so far!) Delta Sigma is another advantage. And like of valves / tubes too, plus value for money (being a DIYER myself).
So see you around in the forums from time to time guys, and regards to all.
Hi everyone, fairly new to audiophile things in general but liking the environment here thus far with lots of good info to learn. I'm personally a basshead coming from the head-fi extreme basshead club.
