Hey guys I'm a head-fier (same username) that lurks these forums as well mostly looking for similar valuable info that interests most hi-fi enthusiasts :)
Not sure if this is the place for this but I will now jump into how I got into hi-fi and give you a general idea about me as a person.
I got into hi-fi 2 years ago when I could not find any PC Gaming Headset to upgrade from my Sennheiser PC360 that would be worth the money and sound quality upgrade. So I went ahead and bought a pair of MrSpeakers AlphaDogs + ModMic. At the time I had the Asus Xonar Essence STX soundcard on my PC so you can imagine how weak and ass the AlphaDogs sounded with that (even with all possible + gains turned on).

So somehow I stumbled upon head-fi and after reading this and that I stopped on the Schiit Lyr 2. The Lyr 2 was the gateway drug for me to get into more stuff - I started with tube rolling, and to be honest I've never stopped I've tried pretty much all of the existing 6922/6DJ8/7308/7DJ8 (or in the alternative names ECC88/E88CC/E188CC/PCC88/6N23P) and soon I will have tried almost all of the 2C51 tube variety in my Lyr2. I got hooked into tube rolling so much I started reading about tube science and matching (which is very interesting and there are many contradicting opinions on proper ways to match, and it also depends on how the amplifier works) and bought two digital testers (Tube Imp and ECC-T) which complement each other well.

Around this time I decided I want to try Audeze LCD-2 (as I'm kind of a basshead and this was recommended everywhere I looked) and I got them 2nd hand and they blew me away so I stopped using my Alpha Dogs almost entirely. A little bit after I decided to add a Bifrost Multibit and feed it using Coax out from my Xonar Essence STX and that was a revelation I couldn't believe the difference.
Last years I got HD800 2nd hand again (ex show model from a shop) and they are currently my favorite headphone - no mods I tune the sound signature using my Lyr 2 and my plethora of tubes. I have so many tubes I've sold some on head-fi and I have many more to sell but I am too lazy to do it as it requires some time investment on my part - burn-in a bit, listen for noise, microphonics, retest, box, post, worry about the postage being lost, etc.. :D From where I'm standing my HD800 do everything better than my LCD-2s and AlphaDogs. I just wish I could find a closed-back headphone that doesn't make so much noise towards my surroundings with the same SQ but I have not done much research there.
This year I bought the Yggy 2nd hand (no gen 5 usb) + RME HDSPe Raydat digital interface to feed my Yggy and it feels pretty great to have this combo, it eliminated some issues I had (ground hum with my older STX+ into BifrostMB unless I tape up the ground pin on the plug, now it's gone) and there seems to be much more of everything compared to my Bimby.

I am looking to get the MJ2 but I am still uncertain about a few things so I thought now is the best time to ask for advice here ( I had tried to ask about these issues on head-fi a year ago and my comment went unnoticed). So maybe here I will have some answers and maybe even suggestions about an alternative amp if this is not the best for my purposes.

As for me I am from Bulgaria and as you can see I am limited to mostly Schiit products for several reasons:
    1) I can get them from EU without customs fees as they have EU shops
    2) They are a popular company with many reviews a lot of feedback on their products and generally from my perspective highly regarded within the hi-fi circles (not on reddit though for some reason :D)
    3) They look good (doesn't really matter to me but it's a nice bonus)
    4) After having them for a while I can also say they sound good (I"ve blown a few of my friends' minds with my setup so much that they do not wish to repeat the experience because their audio sounds like shit in comparison after)

Damn now that I read this back it seems like a mess but I never was good at structured writing as my thoughts go all over the place.

Anyway nice to meet you guys Ivan from Bulgaria here :)

Hello friends, I'm a 17 year old student from Munich. I only just have started my studies at SEA Institute Munich in audio engineering. My dead boring, working all day long Dad got me interested in audio a few years ago. He just took me to his workplace at sony labs in the audio department and proved to me, that it's actually kinda cool what he is doing. I'm open-minded and trying my best to learn all I can about audio from a technical perspective.

Also I like listening to music and I love animals.

Hi, I'm Max. This is my post to introduce myself.

I found SBAF from a link in a Massdrop discussion, or maybe from searching for reviews for a product. I've been lurking and reading threads about gear that I'm interested in. I'm very happy to see measurements (thank you!) mixed with impressions and analysis, and I appreciate the high signal to noise ratio here.

I've been interested in stereo equipment for as long as I can remember -- since my childhood in the 70s. That interest became a hobby when HDTV became available, and I got into home theater. However, I still mostly judged my audio system by how well it played music. More recently, I've been focused on headphones, and most of my listening time is now via headphones at work. I'm a software engineer.

My current desk setup is a Grace m9XX DAC+amp, which I really like for a lot of reasons, and Fostex TH-X00 headphones, which I also like a lot, though I am looking for something that leaks less sound (maybe the Aeon Flow, Closed that I just acquired). I also use JH13 or various other IEMs sometimes, depending on how loud I want to listen without leaking :), or the program material, or my mood. At home I can use open-back headphones, and my favorites are my Hifiman HE-560.

I listen to rock, pop, various flavors of electronic music, standards, jazz... lots of different stuff. I like discovering new (to me) music, and often listen to the music mentioned in audio gear reviews, or the test tracks that other enthusiasts say that they use to audition gear.

I've got too much gear, but I like buying stuff and trying out different equipment, so I'll surely continue. I should sell some stuff. I'm sure I'm not alone in this regard. :D

    Hello Friends,

38 year old doctor from Istanbul here. The quest for the ultimate audio enjoyment led me here through head-fi and massdrop discussions.

I do enjoy all kinds of experimental music but my heart lies in 70's progressive rock and progressive metal of all sorts, although I certainly enjoy occasional trips to death and black metal as well.

In headphones and IEM's I look for a detailed, clear and neutral (with a bit of bass and sparkle) sound.

Current gear is Chord Mojo+ Senhheiser HD598 SE at home and Pinnacle P1 abroad.

Looking forward to expand my knowledge and get to know interesting people here...

    All the best!

    Hi!

New here, also new to audiophilia. Grew up poor, taught myself to play guitar, the best headphones I ever had were Beats because they were a holiday gift. One day the cable got damaged and I spent $50 on a pair of AKG K77s and thought “what the hell, how do these sound better?”

I’m still broke, and I also live in a rural area where I can’t try stuff out for myself. But I’m good at saving, and I now own a pair of HD800s, LCD-2.2 Pre-Fs, and want to ask a bunch of questions to help me make informed purchasing decisions with my very limited (in audiophile terms) budget!

Hello all! I'm 27yo working in healthcare from Singapore.

A long time lurker of this amazing forum. Definitely a great wealth of information to be found here!

Began my journey with Chi-fi and Beats(unfortunately), but progressed to better gear after hearing the magic of Chesky's recordings and the like.

I do listen to most genres; Thelonius Monk, Frank Sinatra, Mahler, Amber Rubarth, Rage Against The Machine, Dire straits, GoGo Penguin, with the exception of the more eccentric ones:punk:

My preferences lean to a natural, balanced signature with a slightly warm tilt, though I like bass more than I would admit.

Desktop setup: PC Jriver>Gumby naked USB Gen 5 (BAL) > Ragnarok (BAL) > LCD-X/ Eikons
Portable gear: iBasso DX200 (BAL) > UERR/Zeus XV

Looking forward to being here. Thanks for having me!

    Hello. My name is Benedict.

I also post sometimes on Linus tech tips and reddit, used to on headfi, but I really don't like the atmosphere there most of the time.

I prefer cold science to subjective opinions when stating something generally, but do enjoy a good debate, talk, discussion nonetheless.

I started this adventure with dt770 and odac+o2. Then bought hd650 and q701. Sold hd650, got lcd2 latest. Got hd800. Gifted q701 and hyperX clouds. Got Stax sr-l700. Man.. I also have rha ma750, re400, senns hd 4.40 bt, el-8c, valhalla, rode nt1a, a pair of nt5, steinberg ur22, ur22mk2, shure sm58, cosmic ears 3way custom iems, some senn/adidas water resistant iems for the gym, running senns/adidas earbuds, sanskrit dac, xonar stx card, senns rs180 .

Am currently modding re400 with replaceable cables, waiting for parts.
Am also building speakers right now, that will take some time.

I'll probably buy hd650 back, they are like lcd2.2 but much lighter. I can't forgive myself for selling those.
Q701 are amazing too. But the head bumps are terrible and I've got hd800, so...

Was lurking around here, decided to join in sometimes.

I'm really interested in hd 660s, can't wait to see tyll's measurements of them.

    See you all :)

Hello everyone, new to this forum but not new to audiophilia. Will probably mostly lurk lol. :)

I enjoy headphones at work (iOS -> CEntrance HiFiM8 -> HiFiMan Edition X v1), and speakers at home (Mac or RP3 -> PS Audio DirectStream DAC -> Parasound A21 -> Totem Acoustic Hawk, JL Audio Fathom F112).

I'm primarily interested in discovering new albums & artists, and some day meeting SBAFers to chat about audio gear.

    Hey guys, just joined here.
I've been a member at head fi for years, but rarely post there.
I mainly hang at diyaudio and some at audiocircle.

System is a PC with linear PS and lifepo4 battery power, to a soerkris r2r dac with a bunch of mods. Amps are a lyr and a modded ming da mc66a3. Cans I'm uising are hd700, alphadogs and he-500.

    Hi.

Lurked for a while and finally decided to make an account. I've been a member of Head-Fi since around 2010, when I got into this whole "audiophile" thing with the RE0 after my V-Moda Bass-Freqs broke. Countless headphones and IEMs and numerous amp and DAC purchases/upgrades later and here I am. I occasionally write reviews and other stuff on my site, but I haven't written anything there in over a year. Want to get back into it but other things keep getting in the way.

    So, that's my story.

Hey y'all! From Houston looking to learn more...

Was using an M50x for a long time, recently got an EL-8 open from the Audeze.com refurb pile and am probably going to spend way too much money on this hobby before too long...

Looking forward to joining the community!
