Oh wait... that's Scotland... You get the idea. Congratulations on surviving parenting and graduating to having disposable income again.

    Hello all,

I used to have speakers but now I have kids. But I really miss listening to music in a way that makes me happy, so I decided to give "serious" headphone listening a try. My first attempt was unsuccessful. I got confused. I thought I wanted portable but I really didn't, I wanted compact. I bought a Cayin N5 DAP and a pair of Beyerdynamic T51P's. This didn't make me happy. Some things sounded good, but I wanted more than occasional brief bliss. More than that, I needed something to give respite from daily life.

So I read a lot of posts, first on head-fi which was just too much, but then I made it over here and my path became much clearer. I sold some stuff (a few rare Prince CDs), and then sold some more stuff (film camera gear since I appear to not be shooting anymore). I bought the THX-00 EB from Massdrop a couple of weeks ago and today I placed an order for Jotunheim and Modi Multibit. I plan to get the obligatory HD 650 soon, after I do a job that pays with an Amazon gift card. And then I'll be happy. Sooooo happy. Right?

Hi all, I am from Bangkok, Thailand. I was out from Audio for about 15 years and starting to get back since the popularity of Head-fi stuff (so many interesting equipments to try) coming from 2-CH stereo, Headphone Audiophile is different and very interesting.

    Hi peepz

Not my first post, as you can see... Allthough I seemed to have gotten away with not introducing myself, I'd like to apologise myself for being rude and set things straight.

I'm a Belgian headphone addict. My appartment doesn't lend itself for speaker listening, both room size (and treatment) and neighbour-wise, so I found solace in headphones... and so much more.

I graduated in law and plan to make a career switch to become a barrister - now I work for a big retailer. In my spare time, I play the piano a bit and also loved to sing in some amateur local musical productions, be it both at a mediocre level. It's a hobby, I find joy in it. It's not an ambition ;-) Musical is too time consuming to combine with my job and plenty of other activities for now, so backing up a choir once in a while is what remains... luckily my Yamaha CP4 allows me to silently make some music in the apartment as well.

Most of my time goes to listening to music however. My list of gear will probably etch out where I come from and where I stand.

I've always loved to have multiple possibilities, so I can accommodate to my mood or the genre, music flavour, ...

My very first entry into real sound was the Shure SE530, later replaced under warranty by the SE535 (still have them). What an epiphany. This got the ball rolling.

As a student, my first setup was:
Laptop into Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP.
HP: Beyerdynamic DT-880 Pro (250 Ohm) and Shure SRH-840.
Still have all of this gear.

    Added since then:
    Sources:
    - Note 4/laptop --> Chord Mojo
    - Auralic Aries Extreme --> Auralic Vega
Amps (they complement each other well):
    - (Chord Mojo)
    - Auralic Taurus Mk2
    - Feliks Audio Elise
    - Icon Audio HP8 Mk2 signature edition
    Cans:
    - Sennheiser HD650
    - Focal Spirit Pro
    - (sold: Sennheiser HD25 Aluminium: way too bassy to my liking)
    - (sold: Sennheiser HD800: amazing HP, but I am sensitive to treble...)
    - Sennheiser HD800S: replaced HD800
    - Audeze LCD-3F: Great complement to the HD800(S)

Funny enough the HD650 is my latest HP acquisition. I had a really good deal on them (brand new) and wanted to finally try them. I just couldn't let that pass by. I planned to return the cans within 30 days and get my money back. However, they never left once I discovered what they can do - even though I already owned both a HD800S and a LCD-3F.

In the making - expected soon: DNA Stratus.

Feel free to comment on my gear, propose upgrades, or mock it :p

    Hi there!

Found this forum while searching for info on Sony DAPs, and am really happy I did. I noticed the two conversations I read to be largely respectful between contributors. It was a very nice atmosphere, when compared to other forums in general.

I'm in Seattle, and recently realized that I'm an audiophile of sorts. Never having had good audio equipment, it came as a surprise to me when I first heard some of my favorite music through a decent player and IEMs. So, I started out with the Sony NWZ-A17 and the RHA-MA750 IEMs. Within a week, I upgraded the MA750s to the RHA-T20 and immediately knew it was the right decision to start spending large sums of money for an even better listening experience. It makes sense, because I now listen to music through my IEMs for about 4-14hrs/day. The expenses will be worth it.

Currently, a few weeks about from being able to try/buy the Campfire Audio Vega, and will then be working my way up to either the Sony NW-WM1Z/A. I think I found a good, yet very affordable DAC and am looking forward to plugging that into my lappy so I can listen to more DSD/DFF files. I never new that swimming through the finer details in music could be so rewarding. And I'm on decent hardware right now. So, I imagine my head will explode once I try some seriously high quality gear. The risk will be worth the taking.

For the time being, I'm more likely to lurk than contribute, as I've got much more to learn on these subjects than to offer.

    Thanks for a great forum!

    HoS

    Hi folks,

I've been an intermittent lurker for a few months at least - this great site keeps cropping up in Google.

Currently I'm trying to find a better sounding DAC than my Schiit Modi Multibit for my office rig. Despite auditioning many laughably expensive and shiny boxes, the Modi MB is still out in front! If you are on a tight budget, just buy one and spend the rest on headphones... or CDs ;)

    Hey everyone,

I've come to this site a few times thanks to my new (and expensive) IEM hobby. I started off at Head-fi, but I'm interested in checking out the opinions around different forums.

I've always been into headphones, but not crazed. My wife bought me my first set of audiophile IEMs in 2007 at Jaben in Singapore. They are the FutureSonics Atrio M5s. I used these up until last year (2016), when I finally put on a set of AKG K3003s (not the K3003i).

I had received these original K3003s back in 2011 as a gift, not realizing that these were TOTL headphones. What a difference these made! The Atrios sounded so muddy in comparison. From that point on, I decided to try out some Chi-fi, like KZ. Cheap, and I guess good for the price, but nothing that really rivaled my K3003s.

I discovered a site called Massdrop, and that's where I think I started getting a bit more obsessed. I purchased a pair of the VE Monks, the Purpleheart Fostex-X00s, the LZ-A4s, and finally my beloved Noble Xs. Along the way, I also picked up a Dragonfly Red DAC/amp.

With the Noble Xs, I started tip rolling, and I've settled on Spinfits for those. For my AKG K3003s, I'm using Spiral Dots.

At this point, I'm trying to slow my roll...I really want to try the Campfire Audio Andromeda, Vega, and Lyra II next, as well as the Kaiser Encore from Noble. I think my sound signature at this point would be something similar to the Noble X that I have, but with a bit more sub-bass rumble and clarity. The AKG K3003s are close to that desired neutral frequency range, but can be a bit too cold. Any thoughts?

humzebra from Head-fi, when I created my account here it said enter name and I did and now my name is my handle here, lol
I started with head-fi back in 2005, bought a pair of Hd600 and some dinky portable amp, went to an informal 'minimeet' (nowhere near what they can be now), learned it was cool to listen to REM on Sennheisers, bought Grado SR225, sold the Senns and the amp. bought dt770 80, got through college with those and HF-1. Acquired HF-2, didn't listen much. Realized I couldn't do as much of my amateur astronomy hobby and bike riding once I got married, had my firstborn blessing. Decided to get back into the hobby with x00 and Lcd2f. Went silly with headphones. Got some nice MHDT Dacs including a one and only upgraded Atlantis from luckbad he wants back. Like bass, impact, V or U shaped sound. Thought I was set with Abyss and Ether Flow Open and C, got schooled on macrodynamics, realized my modded t5p becomes a monster out of a tube amp. Like the Atticus and Eikon, can't wait to see if Zach makes an open back.
    Now it looks like:
Abyss 1266, Focal Utopia (can't stand the small imaging, like the sound), HD800s, HE6, Peterek Modded T5p
Following Eddie Current Aficionado thread, excited!

I've bumbled my way through too many posts without ever doing the correct thing of posting here first, so I'll post here now.

I was accidentally hired at LTA because someone needed to do admin work sometimes. And then this company run by a speaker guy building an amp designed to be a speaker amp that was only selling as a headphone amp needed someone to learn about headphones. So I became the headphone guy. I've now had to become the many-other-things guy and actually have sold all of my respectable over-ear headphones and listen to speakers at home, though I miss headphones and am looking for a new reference to have. Since I spend most hours of my life in a workshop/storefront with several very good headphones, it's not that urgent.

Also have gone from deliberately hands-off to avoid being drawn into urgent manufacturing situations, I'm now refining my cable making technique, have a home soldering station, and am looking for a cheap and simple amp kit to get me started on actual electronics.

I like learning and like to be as aware as possible of what I don't know, which is a hell of a lot in this field.

My teacup Yorkie's name is Toni.

Thanks man! Does STAX only do full size headphones though? I'm looking to stick with IEMs for the time being.

The STAX SR-002 is a fantastic in-ear option!

Poke around for a while... if you do you'll eventually get the humor in my message and answer a lot of your own questions!

    Enjoy.

    Hey there,

Been lurking for the last year or so now. More active on the non-audio sections on the Headphones Discord (under a different alias, wish I could change the one I have on this forum) as I'm quite happy with where I am audio-wise. Except for earbuds, I find them better for use when I'm lying on my side drifting off to sleep and when I'm driving (not being able to hear the engine noise with IEMs can be kind of disorienting for controlling speed).

My ears are terrible anyway; I sometimes wonder why I'm as deep into this hobby as I am now because of my ability to discern the relative qualities between audio equipment (let alone the ability to pinpoint and elaborate on how certain frequencies compare to other gear). I guess it's a learning experience.

    Inventory
    Headphones

    Fostex TH-X00 PHs
    Sennheiser HD6XX
    AKG K553
    Superlux HD681

    IEMs
    Shure SE425
    Flare R2A (broken cable)
    Trinity Audio Atlas (broken shell)
Some discontinued Vsonic IEM (broken cable)

    Earbuds
    VE Monk+
    Auglamour RX-1 (incoming)

    Amplifiers and DACs
    Schiit Modi 2 Multibit
Schiit Vali 2 with EH 6CG7
    FiiO E07k

Yeah...fair bit of wasted cash on the IEMs. SE425s (second-hand pair) have been running for 3+ years and are still going strong compared to the others.

I wish I knew about SBAF and engaged more with /r/headphones instead of getting into Head-Fi first. I guess that's why I'm here, but I doubt I'll post much.

    Hey folks,

Ended up here by way of /r/headphones. I'm a crappy general laborer in a even crappier factory (employee of the month) who likes music and lives in an apartment. Jokes aside, this is a pretty awesome forum from initial impressions. There was great amount of effort put into the front end to make it fairly awesome.

Right now I'm drinking a beer and listening to They Might Be Giants, while perusing the internet; per usual after work for me. I do not really buy very many pieces of audio equipment, or talk about it to much given my lack of a subjective opinion. I do enjoy reading about other peoples thoughts and looking at some technical aspects of headphones. Innerfidelity was the reason why I purchased my pair of HE-400S's.

I think one day I would like to scrape a bit of cash together for something better. For now though, I'm quite happy with my headphone setup. It is just a 400S with a Origen DAC/AMP.

I pretty much just plan on lurking for awhile to gain a bit of perspective. Which I hope is in ample supply around here.

    Cheers!

p.s. i really really like star wars.

I also am head-fi member but when I suddenly found this forum , and read the topics, I know I can get very much useful informations from these. So i hope i can communicate better and not only increase my knowledge but also receive good advices whenever i need help.
    Thank you for reading.
