Unless you're a size queen, start small and work your way up. You don't want to hurt yourself going too big too fast.

The amp is single ended and the XLR4 is a convenience.

You could technically disconnect ground on the output transformers if you really wanted to have floating balanced outputs.

Ok, canoodling the order so it travels is more or less a straight line from east to west...
Gunner (NY) -> Colgin (NY) -> Alchemist (Ohio) -> Allan Marcus (New Mexico) -> Bazelio (California)

Question for you Americans... does your postal service insurance cover tubes? because they don't cover glass up in Canada.

SO yes you can ship glass tubes with USPS

P.S. Just spoke with a representative at USPS on the phone, and she confirmed you can send glass audio tubes through USPS as long as they are securely packed.

That is what the representative I talked to at USPS said, so yes the amp and tubes are insurable, just make sure the tubes are wrapped in bubble wrap or another material that is secure as stated above.

Giant box arrived today! Looks like I will be busy this week with this new toy

I'm going to a meet in Denver on May 20. I realize that is two weeks away, but if it's OK, can I keep it until then? I imagine folks in Denver would like to hear this amp. If it's not ok, I will send it off in a week.

Holy crap! Listing to Passion, Grace, & Fire from John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola, Paco De Lucia on the Wolf with the KT88s and CV181, Utopia, balanced cable, Bifrost Multibit DAC. The wolf is really nice.

If @bazelio is ok with it, I don't mind the wait so more people can hear it.

@bxh we are still waiting for you to post impressions

    :punk:

Replace the KT88 with the 6CA7 and that was my favourite combo.

Alright, impressions time. Most of my time was spent with the Psvane KT88 and CV181, I tried the RCA 6SN7, and there was a slight improvement over the Psvane, but with the trade off of it being a bit more rough sounding.

I started off my listening with a pair of HD6xx, this amp actually has pretty good synergy with these headphones, warm signature but not terribly engaging or exciting.

Next up was the HD800, that's when things started to get weird. Timbre was off as the treble was untamed while sounding congested, I'm not sure what went wrong.

@Armaegis said it right, "buttery goodness" but I can't agree with the goodness. The Makoyi sounded soft, room reflections in the recordings which could be heard with a Valh2 and Vali2 were gone, no plankton. Going from the EH EL34s to the KT88s fixed this slightly, but not enough for me to be satisfied, still too round sounding for my liking.

I had to go out shopping and to dinner with the wife, so had to take a listening break. I've spent the last 30 minutes with the KT88s and CV181 combo, the Utopia, and a TH900 mk2. I think the utopia and the Wolf with this tube compliment is too smooth. The TH900, on the other hand, has some seriously good synergy here.

This will be a fun week with all the tubes and all the headphone combinations to try.
