OFFICIAL: Massdrop Sennheiser HD6XX

It'll be interesting to see whether there are any left for the "general public". Sounds like they are offering 10k people early access to 7.5k spots.

 

When the drop goes live, how long until it sells out? I have my daily work briefing at exactly 6 PT so I can't get to it until about 30 minutes later..

 

800+ sold in the first 2 minutes. 7500 pairs for sale. Maybe?

Edit: 1500+ in about 8 minutes, so you have a chance as demands tapers down.

 

That presumably includes the people who were allowed to buy yesterday that got stuck in checkout the last time, so the pace of purchasing may not be quite as fast as it seems.

Get a job, save up money, buy HD650. You can do that three times.

 

1) Crazy long shipping time - If you feel generous, you can hope they ship out a batch earlier than December...
2) $250 instead of $200 from the last drop
3) $316 on Amazon (from Amazon, not some Marketplace seller) with free 2-day delivery with Prime, with 10-ft Sennheiser cable and normal HD650 color scheme.

So, enthusiasm for this drop is a lot lower than the last drop.

 

Was going to recommend a couple friends to pick these up, but at +$50 and the December delivery date... nah.. HD650 may even go on sale during Black Friday, making this purchase not very ideal.

 

I was hoping they'd have a different color on the next run... not feeling that blue.

What price would you guys buy the hd650 on amazon for? Is it known to drop into the $200-300 range?

 

The lowest I've seen it go is $315 on Amazon but I'd still rather pay that then wait till December for the HD6XX. Massdrop knew they were going to get a ton of orders so why wouldn't they have Senn build up a decent stock and then announce the second run? The absurd wait time is actually going to hurt sales pretty substantially I think. They should have waited till October - November to announce. Not sure what they were thinking.

 

This is just a guess but it may be a "show of power" to prove to Senn that there is sufficient demand for these headphones even under these absurd conditions (higher pricing, long lead time).

From what I understand, Sennheiser is one of those super stubborn companies that you actually have to show cold hard numbers before they even think about considering to give your proposal even 1 second of thought. From what I understand, the last drop was already super hard to do, and there was so much friction with Sennheiser (refusing to change) that the best they could do was a paint job (you know Massdrop typically requests sound tuning changes as well, but it didn't happen with HD6XX). I'm not surprised this drop will take that long. In fact, I'm more surprised that it's happening again given what Sennheiser thinks about the market. (hint: it has taken them >this long< to "not" come up with a successor to HD650, despite the success of the headphone, yet they came out with HD800S)

If I was listening more to full-size headphones, I'd probably jump on this drop to complete my HD6xx collection, but also to send a message to Senn that the HD650 successor is long overdue. They're one tough cookie to crack, but I'm sure the community will show them.

 

This is like trading in futures. Goodness knows what the Amazon price for HD650s will be in six months time, but not, surely, less than it is now.

 

I got my HD 650s a few years ago for $290 from Adorama. It would not surprise me to see sales close to the holidays be less than $300, if not closer to $250.

 

Wouldn't that send the opposite message: they're still good enough to sell well, so why should they do anything to them?

 

$287 is the lowest its ever been on amazon. Orders can be cancelled anytime until drop ends

 

Keep an eye on Amazon UK. They drop below $300 shipped to the US sporadically throughout the year.

 

Massdrop just dropped the price back down to $199 (once they get to 5000 sold on the drop)... guess they got a lot of flak for the price increase.
