Record Store Day 2016 - 4-16-16

Thought this would be a fun place to discuss Record Store Day 2016 where we try and support the smaller, local, independent record stores and show some love by buying as much as we can afford. They reward us with special releases and invaluable knowledge.

So lets talk about what releases you are geeking out over and show off what you purchased!

I am looking forward to the attention they paid to jazz records this year - Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Bill Evans, John Coletrane.

Also must have the Alt J - Live at Red Rocks and the Ol Dirty Picture Disc

Might even try and find my son the star wars picture disc to get him into collecting!

 

@shaizada Looks like some solid releases this year. I'm surprised! It's much better than the list I saw earlier.

 

I'm interested in the Clint Mansell/Kronos Quartet - Requiem for a Dream, Sex Pistols - Never mind..., and the John Coltrane record. Might try to get the xiu xiu record as well, at least for my sister.

Yeah I assume they updated the list, looks a lot better, or I just missed some stuff.

 

I am eyeballing hard The Guest soundtrack, problem is I think people line up super early at our shops. Previously I bought the score which was NOT the one you want. Not sure if I want it THAT bad yet.

 

About to see how the lines are....looking forward to record black friday either way

Overall a good haul - listening to Alt-J right now

 

People started camping out at our local record store at around 6PM last night.

So yeah, looks like there's some cool stuff, but that's just not going to happen.

 

WOW - The benefit of living in sleepy Maine - I showed up 20 min before doors opened and I was 40th in line or so. Got most of the records I was looking for.

PS the "Miles Davis" Ghetto Walkin' record was a sham. Somebody sampled a Miles song and made a 3 min R&B track. Wasn't even a good song.

 

8th in line at 6:30.

I chickened out on a few other releases but snagged the most important 3 at least.

Every day should be a record store day.

 

Not bad! No White Stripes at the two stores I went to.

 

Pretty familiar looking group of records! Don't know how I missed the Talking Heads / Echosmith side by side.

Listening to this one right now! Mono release, being played back on a mono cartridge...it sounds like magic. What a fantastic release!
I NEVER DO THIS, but I just listened the the album once already and I simply restarted it again. What a ride

Nice, what Stripes album is that? I must have missed hearing about it!

I was able to grab the final Alt J record right before closing time, wasn't expecting it to be almost the cost of my table but oh well. Should probably get a new table but it was a gift from the significant other so...

Oh man I gotta go get a copy of that Escobar album. That's my genre! I shoulda looked before hand I guess!

I did pick up a copy of the Big Star album Fremer reccomended so we'll see how that sounds. He rarely dissapoints with his suggestions.
