@Deep Funk 's post of Kingston Wall (Finnish prog rock band) remembered me how much I like music with great drumming. There's no thread with that topic so far, so here we go.

    Please share your recommendations!

Besides Kingston Wall I immediately think of Mastodon's Brann Dailor, here performing Capillarian Crest at Modern Drummer Festival 2006:

Easily Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree RIP/King Crimson). His performance in the Anesthetize and "Arriving Somewhere" live albums is just phenomenal (haven't heard him in King Crimson, but I assume he is great there as well).

And in Hatesong, Especially everything after 6:35.

I'm a big fan of the Rx Bandits drummer. Christopher Tsagakis.

These are from my favorite album of theirs '...And the Battle Begun'

I could think of some more later. Busy at work at the moment. I played drums for a long time so I've always focused a lot on what the drummer is doing when listening to music. I've always been a big fan of Elvin Jones

Toe's drummer is a mass of pure energy. This performance always gives me chills.

Here's a random one for you, but Carter Beauford from The Dave Matthews Band is an incredible drummer:

    I quite enjoy this performance:

Great thread idea! One of my favorite drummers is Stanton Moore from Galactic. His first solo album is still one of my favorite records and this track is super funky.

Hands down, one of my favorites.

I know it is an easy one, but his solo on Jazz Crimes is top 5 drum solos for me.

Looks like the flower power people have vomitted all over this but has to be one of the greatest drummers of all time

Ginger baker at his best just a shame he didn't make more music when he was in his prime, he was too busy doing drugs and shooting shit. Also worth checking out his stuff with fela kuta and another great drummer Tony Allen X

Crappy upload but when you play the original 7inch the imaging is nuts, good test for stereo. 10cc with the art of noise

I like smooth drummers who can carry over the transitions and keep the band together. Power has impact but keeping everything coherent is more difficult. In Jazz and Funk there are some all time greats. My absolute favourites are from different genres.

    Clyde Stubblefield:

(This is surprisingly catchy and then know he played the original "Funky Drummer" break-beat. He was in control.)

    Ian Paice:

(He was smooth but so powerful. Sometimes the band could not keep up. This was proto-Metal :headbang:)

My current favourite is Matt Garstka:

(I was at their concert in Haarlem last year. The way he controls his drum kit is epic. So smooth in the transitions.)

Mastadon artistically is superb, it's sad that their recording quality is poor across all the albums.
    Tool nails it IMO:

This is sort of a 70s funk standard. Solo right of the top. Seals David Garibaldi’s fame forever.
