If efficency ever drops 20% between 50% and 90% load they won't even get normal 80+ certification.

Just get a Seasonic unit with about 600W if you're running a single GPU.

Did anyone mention jonnyguru yet? Good to check if the PSU you're buying has been reviewed there. If it hasn't, get one that has.

FInally got done cleaning it. Here's an incredibly shitty pic of my PC:
    ShittyPic.jpg
As you can see it's right next to a window and my bed, which I really like. When it doesn't rain you can open the window to better cool the CPU.
I mainly wanted to show that even with the NH-D15 it's still possible to attach the weird Lian Li bar that goes across the top if you turn around the thing where you attach it. This way there's maybe 1-2mm space between the top of the cooler and the bar. I also removed the gaudy looking red cover for the GTX 980, but I can't seem to find a way to get rid of the LEDs without replacing the fans. As you can see I even have a HDD in my PC, but it's never connected. Sometimes I also put an DVD drive in there when I need one, but right now it's not installed. I have an angled cable for my PSU that I use when my PC is stationary for a longer time, but I recently had it at my speaker rig so I use a straight plug right now. (Otherwise the Gungnir and Ragnarok would also sit next to the PC.) The angled one goes out of the back. LOL, I also have the weird Noctua thing next to the power switch. With this case you really want to unplug the power LED. It's probably the worst looking power LED I've seen.

There's no chance that you can hear the fans from 1ft distance at 200rpm. My CPU (5820k) is at 4Ghz and I also have a slight overclock on my GPU. No need to go crazy with watercooling unless you really do need something that outputs 600W in heat.

I think EVGA Supernova series or a high end Seasonic.

I feel like ripple won't be extremely affected by what PSU you choose, you're more likely to pick up noise along your mains than generate it at your PSU. A laptop or a UPS/Backup Battery would be the best way of isolating from noisy mains. That being said, stick to reputable PSU brands in general.

If physical noise is a concern from the PSU though, then just get one of the ones that has a fanless mode at 'low' temperatures.

wow thanks am definitely getting this one then

still need to decide on a case bequiet seems really nice ? anyone know of a really good one that damps sound ?

and anyone know of a passive cooler for the cpu that is good or that turns on while like on load or something?maybe since I can just set a fan curve for the gpu to be 0 below like 60 so that it doesn't cause noise while am idling and playing music and such

Most ASUS boards come with FanMaster, which I find to offer the best fan controls on the market, but as usual competitors will try to close the gap. Most coolers don't have large enough fin spacing to run truly passively now, but something with large fin area would be able to run fanlessly at idle or light usage. SilentPCReview is your best friend: They're impressed by Scythe's Ninja 4 (you can even see the fan acoustic noise profile), Fractal Design cases, and hell, they even do analogue audio.

I personally favor clean looking cases without windows, so I'm partial to Fractal Design's towers, which come with dampening materials (but they're large and heavy as f consequently. I'm still laptop bound at the moment though, with my old SilverStone PS08 waiting to be populated (possibly with Zen).

Yeah Prime - couldn't think of the name earlier. He also called the ripple on the supernova perfect.

Just get a good case (someone mentioned Fractal Design, there are others) and good fans from Noctua or be quiet!. Modern PC parts are coming way down in heat and watts; it's unbelievable how easy it is to make a low noise PC, even one with quite a punch. 10 years ago a powerful rig would almost require either water cooling or noise cancelling headphones in order to make the noise bearable; with modern parts you can barely tell it's on, especially when its just idling or playing audio.

If someone could combine these with a decent motherboard from a reputable brand, a gold rated PSU, and an ISOBAR, and then test the audio out of the USB, I would be very curious. This is what I'm running and I haven't seemed to have quite the problems most people are having with audio over USB, admittedly with my untrained ears.

The EVGA is what I have. I've been pleased with it.

I would like to try Nofan. If I was building a new system in a temperate climate, I'd go for it --- but I have my doubts about how good it would be where winter ambient is around 30C (86F).

Looks gorgeous. Mind you: I don't much gaze at the insides, so that effect would wear off soon after the build.

bro its not really noise that other people are attributing as the reason that usb is inferior. its imo the reproduction of the music i actually have a isobar > rampage v (they have 5v perfect rails on the usb ) > wyrd >yggdrasil > amp and I have no noise but am still sure the difference will be there once I switch too the lynx e22 because people use fully optimized laptops , macs and(known to be better than pc's) and find an improvement in non usb solutions .

ofcourse your right if you don't know what to look for (like me ) were probably not gonna be able to tell the difference

btw some people are mentioned evga's super nova but from the review it seems the seasonic prime is better in this regard or am I wrong? any idea which has better ripple guys?

@kirayamato, I understand. Second part of my post was off topic. I shouldn't have used the word "combined", as I'm really curious about cleaner power and a decent USB implementation; fans and the like shouldn't matter at all for USB (as you say). Continuing in that vein, however, I did try the Lynx AES16 and returned it because I didn't find the differences (if there were any) worth $900.

Anyway I don't want to derail this thread. Sorry for the digression.

PS I've never tried the Seasonic.
