I don't think so. We hate Amir NOT BECAUSE his results were attacking our beloved amps or dacs..

BUT BECAUSE his wrong, biased, and inaccurate interpretations along with questionable measurements are misleading. I honestly don't think this case (adi2 adi2dac) is an exception.

Also, RME's two devices are NOT extremely rare these days. We don't need trash measurements from unreliable sources. Let's just ignore potential noises (remember "garbage in garbage out".. it's the truth of the world).

Cool that you figured it out. Sounds like maybe your neutral is at too high a potential or something.

Does anyone have the ADI-2 DAC working properly with Windows 10 over USB? It works fine with macOS and iOS, but has major dropout problems under Windows. To the point of being unusable. It works fine through a USB-SPDIF DDC like an Eitr, but I was hoping to keep this chain simpler. I posted about it on RME's forums since it's an obvious driver bug (https://www.forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?pid=130670).

You probably have to increase your buffer size in the control panel app.

No problem here (win10 home, no additional changes in setting), except infrequent but unintended automatic changes to adi2 as a default playback device when multiple usb dacs are connected to the computer. I usually set the other usb dac for the windows default playback device.

Increased it already to 2048, and it doesn't go any higher.

Oh wow! Okay, something else is going on then. I don't ever have to go above 64 samples. Make sure your USB connection is to a motherboard USB header and not a front panel header or hub. Also, shorter cable distances can help.

@gepardcv Never had a dropout with the ADI-2 DAC. I use Windows 10 at both home and work. Work has pretty terrible USB but I still don't get dropouts. Home I have a Sonnet Allegro Pro USB card just to have it on its own bus.

@Vtory Because it uses the MADIface drivers and each sample rate showing as its own device is actually desirable with some of those interfaces, I suggest: Pop open your audio program and start up a file of each valid sample rate for the ADI-2 DAC. Each time you load up a new sample rate, a different device will show up that you can swap to not be default. After doing it once for each sample rate, it won't swap on you anymore.

I'll second the advice to try different root ports or shorter cables. Mine drops out on some ports but not others.

If anyone has an iPad Pro with a Smart Keyboard and the RME ADI-2 DAC - the magnets on the keyboard hold it and the iPad to the top of the dac almost like it was a planned design feature :)

Hi. I just got one of these DACs! I'm trying to figure out how to use the headphone from the DAC, and also have the Line Out active at the same time. I want the volume on the DAC to control the headphones, but allow the line out to be full volume. Anyone got ideas on the settings for this, assuming it's possible?

The ADI-2 DAC can’t run two simultaneous outputs, with or without independent volume controls. The Pro can do this with its dual chips and DSP units.

Agreed. I'm pretty sure the best you can do is run headphones, and then pull out the 1/4 inch jack, or 3.5mm IEM cable and it will switch to line output with the last settings used for volume, EQ, etc.

Thanks. I was able to set it to “toggle” mode, which is good. Not great for A/B testing since it does the fade in, which I like. From my initial listing, it seems like a competent amp. I will probably keep it and the mainline and call it done.

At least until the cool device comes out :). Once I saw the Oppo HA-1 way back when, I had to have that. I think the RME is what the HA1 should have been.

All the features are begging for a computer interface. Not sure if REM put in an API, but if they did (or can with a firmware update), well that would be some excellent frosting.

Think of that from the perspective of those who do not use Windows or Mac. A PC-based control interface, pretty-much rules out equipment for us Linux users, and it is great to see stuff that does not need it.

But, ok... the choice is no bad thing.

Or the best of all worlds: manufacturer develops, or makes code available for others to develop, the Linux software. Long time ago, RME was fairly open with this: I was able to control my RME card with Linux-community software that did what the proprietary software did. The next chapter with RME, was that they developed some proprietary USB stuff that they guarded jealously and would not publish. I don't know the current story, except, of course, that ADI-2 is simply USB-Audio-2 compliant: no proprietary driver required.

I completely agree that a published api would be best.

Just got this in recently and am fully enamoured with the device with the sheer amount of features it packs into that tiny little chassis. Some days I spend my time just staring at the analyser, basically wasting away...
