To quote Torq from a PM below:

"From a listening-for-pleasure perspective I like Gungnir MB better than either of them. So the overall order, in that case, DAC-wise at least, would be Gungnir MB > dac1541 > ADI 2.0 Pro."

I have an urge to sell my Yggdrasil and get this one just for the toys that come with it. I have been looking for a new preamp for my monitors as well and this would be ideal. The only thing that gives me pause is HD650 synergy and a possible clinical sound...

Yeah i figured and my speakers are already quite organic and smooth sounding. Those are the main prio, headphones are secondary.

Gonna think on it. Might see an EU Yggdrasil in the for sale section soon ;)

Don't forget that you have separate filter and EQ settings on the preamp vs headphone outputs, so no need to fiddle when you switch back and forth.

Yeah that is one of the inticing features. Just wondering though, i know one dac is dedicated to one of the headphone outputs and the other is shared between the analog outputs and the other headphone output. But it detects when headphones are plugged in right so does this mean that there are also seperate eq settings for the shared dac?

yup. separate EQ and DSP .

Thomann offers a 30 days return policy. if you have the money it's easy to buy, make your opinion and decide what works best for you. :)

Thanks for clearing it up! Unfortunately i would have to sell Yggdrasil to be able to afford the ADI2P.

Tomorrow i will go on a nice long run to clear my mind and then make a decision ;)

How's the match with IEM's like PP8 and Andromedas for the ADI-2?

The thing has zero noise and Zout circa .1Ohm. Should be about right.

Hehe, I like what I read! Now, €1000+ IEMs feels like a silly "investment"....but I guess that's why we're in this so called hobby.

Totally agree with this. Never thought I'd spend that much on an iem but it all depends on use case, I use them every day on commutes and office so it more than pays off!

Underspend = always wondering if there's more to gain = more money spent = higher total cost.
Aim high = spend lots of money = still not happy = change hobby.

    :D

Me likey with PP8. Vacuumous background, fine graduations of volume control and perfect channel matching.

You won't get the ZX2 tonality (which is ~2 ohm) but you'd still get an Andro sound with more bass.

f**k it i want one, most of the music i listen to does not do the Yggdrasil justice. Now to decide if i want the anniversary edition or not. Lot’s of new headphones coming out i could use the extra €400 on...

There is no hiss with the Andromedas when used in low power mode; it is silent. The problem for me is that the Andromedas become too bass-heavy, to the point where it feels like the balance is thrown off. I find that adding the iEMatch helps bring the balance back.

The caveat is that this was done using the Andromedas in single-ended mode with the ADI-2 Pro. I don't have an adapter to try the Andromedas in balanced mode, and I wonder how that would change things.

@GanGreinke : did you check if the the loudness is OFF before to use IEMs ?

I don't understand why a low Z Headphone output would affect the FR of your andromedas in any way.

Andros are sensitive to OI - ideal is generally seen to be 2 ohm, less and it gets bassier, more and it gets thinner.
