The Eitr is a DDC. It knows nothing of MQA and just converts the USB digital signal to SPDIF.

Eitr arrived today and passes MQA fine no problem. My setup is PC > Eitr > S/PDIF input 1 on Brooklyn DAC+.

Edit: for the first hour the Eitr was in the system I noticed that sound was slightly soft like listening through a thin veil. I have read other reports that the Eitr takes a few hours to reach potential but I also had it connected though a powered USB hub. Now this was not a problem before but I changed around and plugged the Eitr directly into a USB 2 port on my laptop. Problem solved. Sound through Tidal was glorious. Eitr is definitely a keeper.

FWIW I just ordered and Eitr and was researching the cables and found this:

Digital coaxial cable
For SPDIF digital audio use.
Nominal cable characteristic impedance should ideally be 75ohm
Bandwidth requirements similar to those of composite video (> 6 MHz)
Non-75 Ω RCA/phono connectors OK for short lengths (< 3 m)
Use 75 Ω BNC or TNC connectors for long lengths (> 10 m)

RCA Cable
Cable may or may not have 75 ohm characteristic impedance.
Characteristic impedance of no importance for analogue audio.
Characteristic impedance is important for analogue video or digital audio, especially for long lengths.
Capacitance may matter in some analogue audio applications.

Sub-woofer Cable
Characteristic impedance of no importance.
Capacitance of no importance.
Good screening against low-frequency noise (particularly mains hum) is main requirement.

Also, Blue Jeans digital audio cables with these specs are $19 on Amazon
• Coaxial Digital Audio Cable made with Belden 734D1 cable stock, assembled in USA by Blue Jeans Cable
• Silver-plated copper center conductor, with braid-over-foil shielding
• Canare RCA plugs, with gold-plated spring ground contact, provide excellent grip on RCA jacks without the over-tightness associated with many RCAs
• Consistent 75 ohm impedance minimizes return loss
• Nitrogen-foamed polyethylene dielectric
You can also get aluminum-core copper-clad media bridge ($4), amazon brand ($4), or pangea ($30). I got both the mediabridge and Blue Jeans ... i'm not expecting a difference, but we'll see.

I like the blue jeans RCAs mostly for the canare connector, which is one of the best I've ever seen, and the Belden cable, which is also top notch in durability. The canare RCA connectors are tight enough to get a good connection but they don't rip the jacks out of your gear.

I wish that BJC was shorter.

I'm using one of those $20 Blue Jean's cables from Amazon. I hear no differences vs any other cable I have, but it's very well made, does the job.

Cool, thanks. Either I missed that before or I just forgot it.

@Skyline I should have asked for that, but got the longer one. Apparently I was lied too. Longer isn't always better.

Noob question. Can we use PYST on he Eitr?
Or is something 75ohm better, like the BJC?

You can use the PYST USB A-B to connect the Eitr to your laptop but you should use a true 75 ohm S/PDIF cable to connect the Eitr to your DAC you can get one for less than $20 at Blue Jeans Cable made to order. They ship fast.

The PYST's sound no different to me. Schiit is very good at pointing this out in the Eitr manual BTW. Yes you can use a fancy 75 ohm cable if you want (you can read the manual for yourself).

Nothing wrong with using a good cable, so I use one cause why not, but PYST's sounded the same to me.

To anyone else in the UK: Eitr is finally in stock after months of waiting. Just ordered one. Quite limited stock, I think.

But for once you ended up long instead of short. Congrats!

The Mad Scientist down under is even promoting 37 ohm digital cables.

Puma Cat thanks for the comparison! I treated myself to an AudioQuest Diamond USB cable used between my laptop and Eitr and am very pleased. Bought it off Amazon so I could return if not happy but no way is the Diamond leaving my system.

really, truly don't want an SBAF thread responsible for delineating differences in USB cables which feed a SPDIF reclocker.... so won't begin to ask the whys, what fors or if there's a @schiit approved USB unicorn cable to improve the Eitr.

The thread on HD800 amps is a valuable resource it certainly helped me. Since every component in a system makes a difference why not a thread designed to help maximize the benefits of an Eitr? You might not want to spend any more money on your Eitr but it would be good to know options.

Good news, congratulations. Yes, I've found the AQ Diamond USB cable to be the best I've heard, but I've not heard the Wireworld one yet. The AQ Coffee is a great value with respect to performance for money.
