What everyone said. I may not have a Gungnir Multibit, but I do have a Jot with its lowly DAC module. Even that Schiity DAC required almost 3 days to settle down (at least from when I first bought it), else it sounds all kinds of harsh and glare-y and death even with HD650. Modi Multibit takes a few days to warm up too, from what I've read here. Gungnir Multibit taking even more time just makes sense.

Don't be afraid to leave it on! Maybe warm an egg or a banana (or your delicacy of choice) on top while away, and enjoy both that and the music when you're home. Win-win. Don't ask why I warm a banana.

@lerrens Thank you for the impressions.
I was thinking about jot but now i have found a bargain for mj2 and i am seriously thinking
    of pulling the trigger.

Just to be clear the kWh rates quoted on that site are inclusive of the fee structure and don't reflect the actual increase that would be present on the bill. In Texas, it shows the average cost as $0.11, but my actual per kWh cost is $0.031. Unless adding something like this adds enough power to push you from one fee tier to another, it will be significantly cheaper than those quoted rates.

I've been using an optical output for quite a long time and it was vastly preferable to USB (prior to Gen 5). Since I got an Eitr I can newly appreciate what the limits of the optical connection were. My Gungnir Multibit was held back this entire time. What a lovely DAC.

Thanks to @BillOhio, I'm listening to a Gungnir Multibit in my setup.

For a fully burned-in unit, how long does this thing need to warm up before it's at 90%+?

+/- 24 hours turned on should get you there.

I think about four days for the clocks to fully settle down, that's when mine is sounding it's best.

Word, thanks guys. I'll keep it powered up the entire time I have it on loan. I've definitely enjoyed it in other setups, but this is the first time I've heard it in my own. I'm currently hearing it as a bit indistinct, slightly brittle, a touch muddy, maybe a little strained and shouty. It hasn't even been powered on for an hour, though.

Give it 48 hours of being turned on before giving it a critical listen.

Hello from the bar of the Wyndham hotel across the street from the San Diego Harbour:D

Thanks to @Luckbad for the ear buds and my first chance to hear an EC amp, a Cavalli amp, and my first chance to hear a pair of 650's ever.

Edit:And yeah, the Gungnir Multibit will be a completely different amp in two days. Very smooth and lush vs. that brittleness that I know is there at the beginning.

    Very Cool afternoon.

My Gungnir Multibit was shutoff for half a day due to a power outage. :(

Now I am waiting for it to come back to it's full glory. I think Schiit should make a block heater equivalent for their DACs. ;)

@Luckbad any impressions you plan to share yet?

Thanks for the reminder. I have a draft that's been sitting around incomplete for weeks.

Update: Decided I'm too lazy to elaborate or edit further.

The funny thing is that there are probably heater designs for the AD DACs in the Gungnir Multibit and Yggdrasil. When they're used in things like MRI scanners, they have to be up and running within their INL spec in minutes, so the chips have to be heated within spec fairly fast.

I'm guessing the BoM of these two DACs wouldn't stretch to something quite so elaborate, though ;)

Have you considered running your audio gear through a good UPS?

Just a heads up- the key word here is "good". You want true sinewave output, as most UPSsen give you a modified square wave, which actually makes matters worse.

Some also only give a good sinewave when running on battery afaik.

Hopefully, they pass the "pure sinewave" of the AC coming out of the walls when the power is up.

Yeah, I wouldn't fancy trying to find a UPS for audio- I wonder if a power regenerator being driven by decent UPS would do it? Expensive, power-sucking and bulky combo though. Probably well into stupid overkill at that point.

    That was sarcasm, right?
