I hope this turns out to be what solderdude is describing, essentially a 650 with more subbass. Sounds like it might be less comfortable than the 650 though, so I may have to pass.

There's also some discussion of the HD660S going on in the RMAF thread.

I'll be glad if they're really reusing the cable terminations, I just ordered some custom ones for my 6XX.

From the picture, it sure looks like it.

The housing is the same as the HD6XX so I would think the cables would be the same so you should be fine. From the picture it looks like the usual 600 series connection.

Reading through that thread it appears the post of that impressions is a G1217 insider... if he's talking Euro's he might be Jeremy's European partner.

Either Way... I've been toying at the idea of getting an HD 600 and swapping in some open back wood cups... I might have to wait an get this instead

That guy (Furiousipaduser) is right...that looks very much like a HD700 driver in there

Need to be careful. Just because it looks the same doesn't mean it is the same.

Of course. Might be better if it isn't the same. Haha

Was it established that the awful treble of the HD700 was the cause of the driver and not the enclosure? I recall some theorizing of how an HD800 driver would perform in an HD600 enclosure as the 6kHz peak was attributed to the enclosure and not the driver (as per Marv's driver only measurements)

It's a shame they didn't change the plug so you only have to plug into one side of the headphones, like with the 5xx series. It's annoying having two cords hanging down, and most headphones these days have the single cord. Although I wouldn't want them to do that if it reduces the easy serviceability of the 650/600/580 too much.

I prefer having two terminations, not only does it easily allow for balanced connections and easier maintenance due to not having a cable run through the headband to the other driver (a very thin cable at that), but it feels more balanced on your head. If you have a heavy aftermarket cable hanging off one side of your headphones, especially light ones like the HD6x0, you'll feel it.

It is going to come with both a balanced 3.5 mm cable and single ended cable.

I significantly prefer having it plug into both cups. Makes it much easier to work with, much better for longer term listening, probably other reasons. I have a hard time taking a headphone seriously if it only has a single point of failure entry.

This was at Headphone Heaven on October 7th in Rotterdam! I didn't know they had a new headphone at their booth.

A single connection rules out out a pair of headphones for a lot of people here- it's the opposite of a good idea. It makes rewiring them much more hassle, especially for folks who want to run them balanced.

I seriously hope these will embarrass all the manufacturers going with the 1k+ pricing hype.

I was able to listen to the HDV820 (new Sennheiser AMP/DAC) in a shop recently and compared to the HDVD800 the new one sounded darker with more bass. The 800 was more airy. Listening in a noisy shop from a iphone line out with unfamiliar music was far from ideal though. I wonder what was used to audition the new HD660 at the show.
