So who else sent a letter to the FCC today (Net Neutrality)?

I am sure that everybody who browses quite frequently has heard how Congress is trying to sell out our personal internet information to the highest bidder and how countless sites are teaming up together to prevent that from happening.
While I am not surprised considering how corrupt as f**k our government continues to get, I am generally interested on where this will eventually take us (internet or otherwise), how much more will be sold out for a profit, and how much "freedom" we will actually have.

Yes, I understand I am still talking from a point of luxury compared to countless other countries, but at the end of the day, it's because how much we pride ourselves on our supposedly freedom and liberty. It's sad that we say all these things, but the people in charge continue to use those things as bargaining chips to keep themselves in power and to make another extra couple hundred million that they don't need.

You know it is discouraging when Pornhub cares more about our rights than our f'ing government...

They are back to the creative Bill naming game - Restoring Internet Freedom - the opposite of what the Bill does. :(

Thanks for linking it. I forgot about that.

Wow they are getting really good at this fake news/alternative facts kind of thing. Calling it internet freedom is pretty ballsy.

I wrote to the FCC today. I am suspicious when billion dollar companies agree with me. Hoping they aren't thinking of writing a bill of their own..

@Ringingears do not be worried about those corporations being Robin Hoods.
If you look at it, most of the listed companies listed above are content providers. They know that if net neutrality is altered, they re gonna feel the squeeze by the providers.
It's really a power struggle between the access providers and the content providers.

That's why Chelyabinsk sounded so familiar:

It's located right to the East of the Urals, and I suspect it's a fun joke by Russian hackers and operatives to discredit those opposed to the law...

I'll put this in a spoiler:
As Eastern Ukraine has shown, Russia has been specializing lately into asymmetric, hybrid warfare. Putin's answer to US and EU sanctions has been deep and effective meddling into their elections process, to encourage extremist parties and candidates, discredit the traditional political class and, where possible, tilt elections. The US, case in point. They also hacked Macron's computers prior to the election, but I suspect the French are much more paranoid when it comes to tech so don't spill sensitive things onto bits as much as their US counterparts do.

So there you go folks, get used to this...

I noticed that Verizon, AT&T and Comcast are against it. Guess was that it's not favorable enough to them. They probably want to write the policy themselves and hand it to the FCC for implementation.

Well it looks like from what I saw in the papers today the FCC is going to give vast powers to access providers to decide which sites you get to see or not. Looks like they are killing net-neutrality. Who gains? And I wonder how much it cost them to win. The vote is next month and is expected to pass. Better start saving up to pay for all those new access fees.

Edit: should have said access providers.

Yep it's back on the table again because everybody in charge of governing us has sold their damn soul and are only concerned with making another couple million so they can afford another private jet or vacation house. I don't understand how it can even get to this point, and I'm afraid to see where this slippery slope goes in the next few decades.

It's ironic how we as Americans pride ourselves on our freedom, and yet with every passing day and year, these freedoms are taken away from us and come at a higher and higher price just to satisfy some asshole's greed and ego. Net neutrality is just the tipping point.

Edit: This stuff really pisses me off if anybody can tell. Just knowing that somebody somewhere is trying to make millions of lives worse for no damn reason or consequence to themselves and that it takes such a concerted effort from a large amount of people to simply delay it from happening rather than prevent it altogether make me question what the f**k are we doing as a country.

And I hope we don't become like those other countries.. If we lose Net Neutrality, and also give those massive tax cuts to the rich, I hope protest and bedlam breaks out.

Well DISH network blacked out CBS. Two of our local stations are out. That makes something like 217 blackouts this year over contract disputes between content providers and access providers. And the customer gets stuck with no voice, because both providers don't care. They know there is nothing to stop them. And we'll just take it. Wait until net neutrality is gone. Same thing will happen with website access, I predict. Pay up, or we will black you out or throttle your speed to a crawl.

Well when I think through this logically we only had net neutrality as law for less than 2 years. The internet was around way before that and it didn’t seem to be a widespread problem. So I don’t have any reason to believe it would suddenly become a widespread problem if we don’t have so-called NN again.

I thought of that, DigMe. Then I wondered "Why expend the resources to return to the status quo of 3 years ago?". I suspect that it is going to be different this time around. (And I envision it not changing suddenly.)
