Very intriguing. Superb build quality. Have you tried one yourself?

I've only heard the Medium module. It was very good, even when powered from a SMPS. The designer behind these modules actually recommends using Hypex SMPS's for these.

I found them way too expensive for what they are.

I didn't give my firstwatt enough time to burn in because I don't believe in burn in really. But holy crap it's sounding amazing now that I have 100+ hours on it. I don't even want to use my other amps anymore for occasional variety purposes

There's a good chance that it won't suck. Look up if other folks have built and measured the boards you're looking for. Also make sure the amp has good speaker protection circuits.

Edit: Just went through a few Russian forums. These guys weren't too happy about the copies floating around fleabay and ali. As in - you'll never know what exactly are you getting. The ones they built couldn't work at advertised maximum PSU voltages and overall sounded mediocre.

Again - I'd very much recommend looking at tried and tested boards from DIYA.

Possibly, although the relative value improves for those already in Australia and paying AUD. Importing anything, converting USD or EUR and paying customs duty gets expensive real quick...

I’m going to have a crack at his NXL500.

anyone have experience with the "refined" simple chipamp amp pcbs that are around? like peter daniels stuff or similar? are they as good as very good discrete design amps?

I'm pretty sure that you'll like it. Holton is very well respected in the DIY community.

I've only tried Neurochrome Modulus86, which I found to be exemplary, unless one needs heaps of power.

thanks Hrodulf, good to know they can reach high levels.. I'm thinking of trying the Folsom DIY7297 Amp & Antipole PSU as my first diy project populating a pcb from scratch instead of premade modules. Might get that ts500 soldering iron to replace my yihua too(or hakko)

That's not a bad starting project. Not much that can go wrong there. I just doubt that it will be able to go toe to toe with the greatest, if that's what you're shooting for.

I have a kit from them of a lm3875 gainclone. Compared to discrete SS like good japenese stuff, its almost as good. for the money, lm3875 from peter daniels is imbeatable. beats any class d I have.

I think you have a M22? i think it also uses lateral mosfet? if so, my Sony 707ES is very similar in design then your M22. Based on that, I can say that a LM3875 gainclone perform well compared to good discrete SS, the gainclone is outclassed but not by much, something like 85% vs my Sony, where the best class d amp ive had would be 75% vs the Sony . The Sony ES wins in musicality, smoothness in the highs, dynamism/effortlessness and complete control in the bass.
