Ok. Thanks, I probably lost the other... Somewhere. If I ever clean my closet I'll probably find a hundred missing tips.

I received these! May I remove the tape on the 800? If not, no worries.

    What's the verdict on the z5, @Warrior ?

    P.S. The ex-1000 are delightful.

    Yes, please feel free bro.

Z5 is a weird one. With the stock cable, completely disappointed. Purchased the upgraded cable, which I listened to for a minute, and it sounded better. I've been too busy enjoying my new Tralucent Plus 5. 5ba wonder from tralucent, which I really love.

@Kunlun The Ex1000 really are damn good. Crystal clear. I eq the shit out of them and turn them into basshead IEMS that are just so ridiculously clear.

Just got these earlier today. Holy hell, the EX1000 is fantastic. Definitely getting a pair of these for myself. Wasn't too fond of the EX800ST, kinda just sounded muffled by comparison. Less sizzly though. My impression might have been different if I tried the 800s first. It's been a long time since I genuinely liked an IEM, so I'm pretty damn excited right now, lol.

More detailed impressions in a couple days.

Thanks a lot for putting another $400 dent in my wallet, @Warrior! ;)

after reading a post by @james444 about the bore size and the effect on sound, i.e. the smaller the bore the higher the bass (at least that's what I understood :) )... I tried my EX1000 with small bore tips, and it seems that they have a nice impact on the sound. The sound is now less lean with a "bit" more warmth. Have not yet tried his recommendation with using a small stripe of alcohol swab...

Aw, now I'm bummed I passed on these. The DITAs were just so disappointing that I grew tired of making trips to the PO. The Andromedas are really good, but on certain tracks they lack a certain coherence, at least to my ears. I'm now convincing myself that the dynamic EX1000 is very coherent, no doubt at the expense of something else. @Kunlun, what do you think of those two in comparison?

While I have not heard the andromeda, these are definitely very coherent. If memory serves, better than the ER-4S in this regard, and certainly better than any of my home headphones.

IME, I'd call the Sony sound blended and perhaps organic.

Blended is an apt word. It's definitely a balancing act between that and the kind of clarity the Andromedas offer. The good thing with the Andros is that their organic/cohesiveness/blendedness is track dependent.

How do you guys define coherent? Blended? How to detect that?

I'm usually pretty critical of lack of coherency, but the andros did pretty well for me. Sure, the ex1000 will do better, organic is a good way to describe them. I really like what he-who-shall-not-be-named called their "magic". Bass, soundstage, timbre are all very nice. In comparing the two, the ex1000 really needs a good amount of power. Given that, I don't think you get the same level of clarity, but the ex1000 can be pretty good and you get a certain live music feel that I can't quite put my finger on. I know there's a jump in the treble, but it didn't bother me somehow (maybe rarely with certain recordings) so really, the ex1000 is one I'm thinking of picking up for at home listening when speakers and open HPs aren't an option. Wind noise is an issue outside, though, so not really an outdoor iem.

Cleaned up the tips with some hydrogen peroxide and got these packed up and ready to go. I will miss these.

@takato14 What about the EX800st? No love bro? I seem to be the only fan of them, not surprising since I'm the evil basshead or basshole as someone here so eloquently put it. ;)

I just couldn't enjoy them after the EX1000. Something "special" was lost.

I have both and feel similarly about them. I really think those who can bear the treble should go for the EX1000.
