    Folks,

Soon I will be setting up a 2 channel system in room that adjoins my dining room. I guess you could call it the Library room. The room is 15.5 feet by 12.5 feet and is sunken by about 6 inches. The room adjoins another room that is 15.5 feet by 12 feet. The rooms aren't really separated. There are two support pillars and a hand rail that stick out from the wall between the two rooms. Well, they are actually in the dining room floor space.

If I had to guess, here is the hardware for the two channel system (subject to change):

    DAC: Schiit Audio Yggdrasil
    Preamp: Schiit Audio Freya
Amps: Schiit Audio Vidar x 2
Headphone amp: Schiit Audio Mjolnir 2
    Speakers: Unknown

Yes, I am pretty happy with Schiit!

My plan was to place the speakers at the side of the Library that is next to the dining room. In other words, the back of the speakers would be facing the dining room while the front of the speakers would be facing the Library. The speakers would be backed up against the hand rails/support pillars. There would be a lot of open space behind the speakers.

My budget for speakers is in the $3000 range. I was thinking the Martin Logan Motion 60XT speakers might be good. But I really could use some suggestions here. I haven't purchased speakers like this in 35 years! I value clarity and clean accurate sound over strong bass. I am not planning on getting a subwoofer at this time, if ever. Are electrostatic speakers a strong option?

    Thoughts?

    Thank you!

Wow. A dislike and snooty response. God forbid I ask about speakers for a two channel system in the "Two Channel Gear Discussion/Speakers" sub-forum. You guys really need to lighten up.....

The big open space could be great for dipole speakers as you have mentioned. I quite liked the Quad ESL 63 when I heard them. If you can get a pair of the Innersound Eros stats for a good price that could also be a good option, but I haven't heard the Sanders stuff yet.
The great thing with estats is the back sounds essentially identical to the front radiation, so you could listen to music in both rooms, without it sounding bad. Not sure how important (lack of) beaming is for you.

Hmm. I don't know that I like the idea of the electrostatic speakers directing sound straight to the dining room. It's just the wife and I in the house so maybe it doesn't really matter.

I guess I need to find a place that has a good selection of speakers. I live in the San Jose area of California. I suspect I should be able to find places to listen to various speakers.

Lots of nice deals on used stuff pickup only for california people on audiogon.
If you're going to use two schiit amps, you might have to restrict yourself to 8 ohms nominal speakers... probably no electrostats.
Whether you buy from a dealer or internet direct, I'd definitely recommend listening to as many speakers at dealers as you can.
If you have a big space, I'd get these http://philharmonicaudio.com/phil3.html nice open back planar midrange to take advantage of the space

What kind of deals are you talking about? Would you have any suggestions for SF?

I recommend the ATC SCM20SL (newer model with ATC's own tweeter). Very accurate and neutral sounding, maybe a bit too "clean" at times. Impressive imaging, scale and bass response for its size. The downside is that it sounds a bit dull and bland at low listening level, and needs some clean power to wake up (but I think 2x Vidars are more than enough).

I'm a big fan of ATC and I think if you want clarity and clean accurate sound over strong bass, then ATC is the perfect choice. I recommend the ATC SCM20ASL Pro mk2 if you are in US (I wouldn't hesitate to buy this speaker if I can get the US price in my country). The price of this speaker is over USD 3000, but you don't need to spend on power amp.
