I recently picked up a Crown D-75 for my nearfields, but out of curiosity I used it with my HD600s from its headphone out and noticed that the bass seemed much more punchy and prominent than when using my O2 (not exactly a forum favorite, I know). The magnitude of this difference seemed pretty obvious, though I didn't perform any rigorous volume matching. Since the headphone out is directly from the speaker taps with no series resistors, a high output impedance surely isn't the culprit, so I was wondering if there was anything I overlooked that might have caused this (besides the O2 being shitty).

Nope, your last four words basically sums it up. The Crown D-45/75 is a nice little amp, and one of my recommendations for someone looking for a $100 amp if they don't wanna go with a small class D box.

Ah, I see. Incidentally, I made the purchase based on your recommendation after scouring the old pro amps thread, so thanks!

The bass is better so there is no "culprit". Resistors would be inserted to kill noise. If you are not having any problems with noise, then I don't see any need for resistors.

I don't think you overlooked anything. The Crown is simply a better amp.
