To anyone who has tried this mod. I've gotten as far as getting the hybrid pads around the mesh dish with the spring in it. I don't quite understand how to get this to stay around the metal plate with circular holes in it. How have you guys gone about it?

Update: I ditched the mesh and the spring. This is very doable. Just requires patience and a little concentration. Don't be afraid of stretching the leather, because it is stretchier and stronger than you'd think. With the newest revision 007, I would heartily recommend combining this with the Blu-tack bass port mod.

Update 2: Keep the springs. I have found that using the metal springs (inserted into rubber grommet without mesh dish) in conjunction with the port mod and Brainwavs hybrid pads creates the best sound. While it brings out the mids, the Brainwavs pads without the springs compresses the sound and heavily reduces the impact that the original pads provided. Including the springs adds a ton of space and air to the 007 while restoring bass impact and tonality. It also makes them a lot less warm and what I can only perceive as much more neutral. It is very easy to switch between using the springs and without them by taking off about half of the earpad and inserting/removing the spring. Then you don't have to start the process of putting on the earpads all over again. It makes comparing the two quite easy.

Oops, sorry, for some reason I didn't get notification for this thread. :(

Yeah, I feel like Stax should have done their pads like the Brainwavz hybrid pads to begin with. The Brainwavz pads aren't perfect, but I think they're one of the nicer alternatives right now.

If someone can add impressions and/or measurements for the angled hybrid pads, I'd really appreciate it! I don't have my SR-007 anymore, but I'm still curious to see what the angled pads will do.

I think that’s the metal wire (not really a dish) that holds the original pad in place.
