Single cutout = easier than multiples. Also, me laser cutting and sending out at cost of materials and shipping = perfect inner circle :)

I did a lot of testing and checking of various Anax 2.0 modded headphones. Rarely does the outer ring sit flush in both cups. The notch actually helps significantly with fitment.

What HD800 mods have multiple cutouts? I guess I'm a bit out of the loop on this one. The standard HD800 mod I'm used to seeing being referenced is the classic Anax mod variant used by Tyll at Innerfidelity, where it's just a ring and a trapezoidal in one piece. The hardest part of cutting out that shape was definitely the inner circle.

The funny part about that mod is the hardest thing is trying to make the dust covers fit nice and tightly inside the cups again.

I have tried the HD800 with dust-coves off. I prefer the sound with dust covers on.

The most recent popular mod is a creatology ring, a trapezoid, and a rug liner ring. We're proposing a single notched ring per cup. I will do some more testing and take pics in the lab to show why the fitment is superior to conventional designs.

Edit: our mod will sound best with dust covers off. That's one thing we're trying to fix as well (dust covers suck to put back in).

I agree. Despite everything out there saying it sounds better without the dust cover, I have found the exact opposite, and prefer the dust cover on.

You guys prefer brighter and less clear at the same time? Ok. Good thing all these mods will be modular :Violin:

I prefer the dust covers on too. Removal of dust covers does increase air - more energy in last octave. My hearing up there doesn't seem shot yet. If we end up with a thicker material, this may cause issues with proper fitment of the dust cover. Dust cover fitment will not be an issue with properly cut out thinner material.

People can buy the mod and do whatever they want with it. If they figure out that dolloping pieces of feces on the material or making additional micro-penis shaped cutouts makes it moar awesome, all the better.

The plan is to make a simple mod that sounds good for cheap.

Really what it comes down to (more than subtle sound differences) for me, is I don't want guests looking at my headphones as a hack-job, with the knowledge that they cost 4 figures.

Is the direction this mod going at this time involve a layer of uniform materials, or is there a chance there will be a few layers of different materials, or even a denser inner ring, porous outter ring shape?

Might be an interesting subject to keep in mind for Marv and Ravi as they figure out the material type. The colour could play a role in the perception of a hackjob as you describe. Perhaps black colour would fit best.

LOL, you want a more than subtle sound difference, you should be using a different headphone! I guess it comes down to what you mean by subtle. The intention is not to turn the HD800 into an LCD3, or an HD650 for that matter. Too much of a change and that would be wrong. Like forcing gay people to be straight when their brains and genetics were never wired for it.

Simple. EZ. No multiple pieces, no multiple shapes, no multiple layers. This was a product requirement per Ravi. You guys can add your own cutouts, or treat it with poop, and "improve" or customize it as you wish.

We were thinking fuchsia as the color.

Again, the plan is to make a simple mod that sounds good for cheap. I will keep repeating this until 100% reader comprehension is achieved.

Don't worry people already think you're a freak when they see you own an HD800.

I think the BTA mod should be as ugly as possible to weed out the fashion-fi queers

Ravi should have access to actually magical substances and materials, perhaps something high tech is required for this :O

No, no. perhaps I needed to reword my post a bit. I'm saying that the better cosmetics of the dust-cover on is the bigger deciding factor to me than the subtle sound difference of not having it on in the first place.

The mods themselves do not introduce subtle changes.

I plan on defecating straight into my HD800 cups later today to give them that gooey, chocolately goodness Audeze sound.
