Check with Sennheiser support if you want some, in Sweden we can order that exact dampening material for roughly 1.3 USD per piece. (not including shipping but assuming you order quite a bit it might work out) Lovely project btw!

oh my f'ing god, this thread is gold. You wonderful assholes really made my day :)

Just an update, we will be distributing ALL DIGITAL MATERIALS for the BTAmod under CC BY-NC-SA (Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike). We will require that:
    • All derivative work be distributed with the same license and shared with the community (we don't care about attribution, we are neither the first nor the last people in the modding scene)
    • All source files, specs, documentation/instructions (including clearly articulated materials lists), art, and mechanical drawings MUST be shared
What we don't care about is enterprising people producing mods for others and selling them. Derivative works can also be sold (we like capitalism and strongly encourage anyone with the time and hutzpah to make mod kits for people do so) but ALL SOURCE MATERIAL must be posted freely online. The goal of BTAmod is to prevent the modding scene for this headphone to stagnate. We'd be dicks if we kept HD800 modding from meaningfully progressing for years.

P.S. I have a final mechanical drawing that will be posted next week or the week after once I test at least a handful of laser cutting passes and fitment.

realizing that key parties to this thread are busy at work and life-
is there any plans to deliver this mod in the next few months? or has the impetus for a laser cut SBAF mod for HD800 hit a dead end?

if a dead end, I may be willing to part with a mint pair of stock HD800 perhaps if SBAF folks bribe me.
just don't want to butcher anything mod-wise myself and may just move on, despite loving the wide sound stage.
    we'll see.

    Okay friends!

About to clear out the backlog at work this week which means next week BTAmod experimentation is back on track! I fell off the map for a couple of months there due to some family health items plus craziness at work plus being sick myself, but it's about to be all cleared up and shenanigans will commence!!!

Oh yeah, we're going to see if we can 3D print some items for the resonator mod, too...

    Looking good, interesting design.

I've been doing some stuff myself with different takes and material usage, so far this has been the best version: http://imgur.com/a/GGS14.
    Ring: Creatology foam + Cork.
Trapezoid: Dynamat Xtreme + Open Cell foam (self cut to about 6mm).
Mesh: thick rugliner cut to not cover the ring or the trapezoid.

So, one minor problem, the parts smell a little bit using the laser cutter with the urethane based materials. The yoga mats and terrarium liners work better, but these rug liners sound better.

Here's a video if you want to see the laser cutter in action:

We tried a lot of multi material mods and decided we weren't getting enough of an improvement over some of the single, thicker materials. The intent of this mod is to make it easy as hell to make, simple to source the materials, and have an idiot proof, reversible installation process.

Yeah I can see that, looks great to be honest. I'd be interested mostly to test this against the stuff I've been doing. Will post when I'm comfortable enough about the process and sonics of my take, still have Silverstone's take on Dynaliner coming in and as @OJneg mentioned the Bath Mat used by Bill-P (US to Netherlands so it's here hopefully next week) to do a final draw with multiple sets of material.

Ah that would be sweet, if needed I'll pay for the shipping no problem.

Since I've roughly invested in almost bulk levels of raw materials I will probably try to source the full mod when done to you guys for testing and measuring.

That machine cuts better than I ever could!
Is there a way to get rid of the smell?

I'm airing them out right now. I suspect the smell will disappear in a day or two.

We also have a huge mechanical cutting machine that might be able to do this. If so, I can cut 40 or 50 pairs at once if I can get a large enough sheet.

Nice! I used my laser to do mine too. I used soapy water to clean up most of the aftermath (smell / residue)

Our laser will only do about 10-11 pairs at once. Takes 5-10 mins to cut and prep. I'll try to get more material once we finalize that this is what we want. If it is, I'll print 40 kits or so for folks here.
