FYI, t's been at $315 for a while at BH Photo and Adorama. Both of them sweeten the deal to many states because of no tax.

There's an easy way to track it:

    https://camelcamelcamel.com/Sennhei...l-Headphone/product/B00018MSNI?context=search

    $287 on Apr 13, 2015 - as it goes!

    (That's how I found a WM1A for £749 from Amazon themselves :D)

With one exception, that $315 looks like the lowest price since 2015. Seems like a good deal to me.

The Lake People RS 08 ($999) is now $700 on Massdrop. Probably still not worth $300 more than the Jotenheim but its worth a look if you are interested in trying something different.

Cambridge DacMagic for $349 - which is $300 less than normal.

This is not the sort of thing I'd normally suggest - but it's the next least-expensive, competent, balanced output DAC I know of after the Ross Martin 1794A DAC. I do like the Wolfson 8740 in general and it's implementation here is competent; signature is very similar to that of the original AK120.

I would consider the headphone output as "useable in a pinch", and then I'd caveat that to hell and back - including not wanting to touch it with lower-impedance cans. And it's worth noting that the unit is NOT USB powered, even when driven via it's USB interface, which is a good thing. Though it has proper S/PDIF inputs available.

At the original $649 I'd absolutely pass on this. Even at $349 I'd generally prefer to listen to a Modi Multibit, and a Modi Multibit + Magni 2 will be much more flexible in terms of headphone matching. But if you really want that balanced output it's decent and a different approach, especially visually, to the Ross Martin unit (though for me, if I was hung up on the balanced thing, I'd buy the Ross Martin and re-case it ...).

Note that everyone seems to have the Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus for $350, so if you want it, you are not limited to Audio Advisor.

Yep, apparently it's an across the board price-drop due to Cambridge changing their distribution setup for the US. Which means it's also probably permanent.

Looks like it already sold, however having started down the road with one of these 18 months ago, I would strongly advise everyone to avoid the Sprout. This was the first indication to me not to trust professional audiophile reviewers. This thing sounds like ass with no bass. It wasn't until I got into Schiit gear that I realized how bad it is.

Interesting. All the pro reviews I read said bass was light and odd on the Sprout. That's why I avoided it.

Stereophile: Compared to my Schiit Asgard headphone amp, the Sprout sounds dry and lean.

Note the crazy FR graph for the speaker output
