Maybe I'm the black sheep here, but I found The Great Wall to be amazingly disappointing, the story is rushed, and they leave you with more questions than anything

aside from horrific plot progression, visually it's really amazing! I enjoyed looking at it

You wasted your time in the theaters because the Last Airbender cartoon / anime was just that awesome and the early film trailers looked exciting. I remember half the audience in the threatee cheering when they saw that trailer.

The white-washing was already well reported in the news, but no one could have predicted how Shyamalan was so sorely unsuited for the director role. A big part of the problem was that Shyamalan had zero imagination on how to translate the "bending" to the big screen. "Oh that's so horrible" my eight year old son cringed when he saw the earth-benders make their moves. The film wasn't exactly lacking in budget either with $150M to work with. Initially my son was so exited to see Last Airbender on the big screen (actaully from the projector in our back yard), but after seeing snippets of the film, he was like "oh no... no".

In closing, I offer you this as a reminder:

That's Dev Patel mimicking the confused Ross look from Friends. Shaun Toub as Iroh was too serious, or it just seemed he didn't care, or was on 'ludes.

Zuko is supposed to be angry. Angry with something to prove from being banished and having his dad, the Fire Lord, burn a fricking scar on his face for being an Asian failure. Uncle Iroh is supposed to the jolly and fat with a funky accent (hiding an inner sadness from the loss of his only son in failed seige of a city, and that he's a serious ass-kicker and member of a secret society of extraordinary gentleman). The comedic interplay between an angry older teen and a jolly caring older uncle was what made their relationship work for viewers.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL. BTW, I can't stand most Ron Howard films. Rush was an exception, and even then...

Have you guys noticed that Ron tends to go overboard on the orchestral crescendos for climatic scenes? It's like, that's OK Ron, you can turn it down. Turn it down please. The music is getting in the way of the impact of the scene. Umm, Ron are you there? Turn it the music down. We don't need the music getting louder. We're smart enough. We get it. The scene is climatic. We get it.

Just part of his gig. Straight ahead narrative, classic story arc, predictable dialogue, butts in the seats and make sure they know they're having a Memorable Movie Moment. Studios need predictable journeymen like him, and he seems content to fill the role. Still: say what you will about Scorsese, he'll always have Taxi Driver. Say what you will abut the Coen Brothers, they'll always have Blood Simple. Say what you will about Ron Howard, he'll always have...Backdraft?

yes, yes yes and so much more yes

extra yes, AtLAB was amazing, I too was excited about the life action film and I was still a KID back then! It's a shame what he did to those films, but oh well. Hopefully, it'll get a reboot in another 8-9 years like what we got with Samurai Jack
