It seems they have dulled the sword at 6/6.5 KHz, and as a result of that the low end and far upper end are very slightly further extended. This will appeal to the holdouts on the HD800.

What I am eager to hear is how the 6khz Peak fix could improve the mids. Logically with less 6khz , the 3-4khz would probably sound less recessed . High mids and treble should be more integrated. That's what I hope but I'm not that confident. Wait & See.

Thanks for tip. Jan's HD800S pricing is actually better than I expected.

Interesting graph. It inspired me to pull the original of my FR certificate to compare, and my pair appears much closer to the new hd800S reference curve than what they are depicting as the old hd800 reference. I actually only have a 2db bump at 6k depicted and my FR purportedly varies by a spread of only 3db from 100hz to 12k. The new reference appears to have the same 2db bump at 6k but varies by 5db over the range.

All in all, it makes me wonder if manufacturing deviations won't basically swallow the difference between many original hd800's and hd800S. I will be eager to see how this plays out when we have more detailed measurements without all the smoothing.

I think Sennheiser is a lot better with product consistency then they are with graphs.... blame the marketing guys ;)

I was wondering if anyone here could possible help me with my HD 800's. They fit extremely loosely on my head even when I have the earcup "sliders" all the way up as far as they can go (I must have a small head I guess). So I was doing research and seen that other pairs look like they clamp better. For example, see the pics below:
    HD800 1200 x 1600 ( 3 ).jpg PHSEERHD800-99dc10d.jpg D3S_4311-1200.jpg

And these are how mine look:
    sennheiser-hd800-side-view.jpg Sennheiser_HD_800_4393453.jpg

And an actual picture of my pair:
    100_0338.jpg

Even with the ear cups adjustment closed as much as possible, the ear cups are still very far apart. Any idea why mine aren't like the ones in the first 3 photos? I looked everywhere and cannot find a replacement band for these except in the UK or Australia, and the prices are through the roof for them there, I cannot seem to find a replacement headband in the US, not even on eBay. Not that I could afford a replacement now, just kind of curious why mine are so loose and not like the first 3 pictures. Any ideas how I can fix it?

if you have anyone has any ideas at all, I would appreciate it.

    Thanks!

Did you just buy them recently and did you get them new? If so I would take them back to the dealer as they don't look quite right according to your pictures. If they are not new then maybe the previous owner has adjusted the headband by bending it? I am not sure what the safest way to bend it back but someone here should be able to help. Can you not get parts from Sennheiser directly? Can Sennheiser recommend a dealer in the US who can do repairs? not sure what else to suggest!!

When I have the adjusters all the way up (notch '1') mine look like yours.
With the sliders are both set at '7' the cups touch each other at the bottom.
I have a small noggin too and mine need to be at notch 3 on both sides.

When you remove the headpadding (it snaps on) you may be able to bend the steel somewhat.

No I got a used pair - it is possible that the previous owner bent them, but I cannot be sure. I just now they are really wide and are extremely loose on my ears and head, so much so that if I turn my head, look down, or move my head in any way, the HD 800's slide all around my ears and head - no clamping pressure at all for my head-size.

I can try that, but I am a little afraid I might mess the metal up or something - I dunno. But I appreciate both of your suggestions.

I did some research and found a FAQ on Sennheiser's website that stated "What do I do if my headband is too loose?"

    Their answer they provide is:

"A common trick to make the headband of headphones tighter is to place the headphones over something (like a stack of books) that is slightly smaller than the headphones currently are and then wrap the headphones with a cord or elastic band to squeeze the headphones inwards to make them tighter. The purpose of the object between the headphones is to ensure that the headphones are not squeezed too tightly as you don't want the headband to crack. NOTE: The headphones may need to be left in this position for a day or two or the process may need to be repeated a few times until the desired headband tightness is reached."

I dunno if that will work or not. I'm just a little nervous about breaking the plastic ear cup sliders or bending the metal too much by accident - but the way they are so loose, I need to do something.

Jan shipped off my HD800S this morning. If my past 4 orders from him are any indication, I'll receive this within 10-14 days.
