Maybe Stereophile will ignore it (Michael Fremer probably wouldn't though ... he's given the thumbs up to U-Turn and other budget vinyl gear in the past). However, with the Schiit logo printed on the plinth, I'm sure it will sell like gangbusters regardless of HI Fi press coverage. Build it!

Yes, you should definitely add that to Schiit's lineup. While your at it, build a nice CD transport as well :headbang:

Seriously though, it looks awesome, very high end. If it goes into production, I am totally confident that it will sell very well.

Any thought given to potential names yet? Perhaps The Schiit Spinner, or The Spinster... (Maybe not very Nordic, but still somewhat graphic. And definitely not that far from the super-secret and magic-imbibed Schiit Floaters...)

Possibly Sol for the turn table and Joro for the tonearm. Forms a trio with the Mani.

A few ideas for Norse names for the turntable.
    • Álfröðull. Refers (ambiguously) to the sun-chariot of the sun goddess, Sol (source; Wikipedia). This would be cool because Sol could then be the name of an upgraded phono preamp that improves upon Mani, the moon god (source).
      • Thor and Freyja also have chariots, but I could not find names for them (Wikipedia, see "Chariots from Norse Mythology").
      • Edit: Just saw @Grahad2's post above along the same lines. Great minds think alike?
    • Ullr: An obscure god referred to occasionally in passing references which "indicate that he was once a deity of considerable importance, even if we don't know why" (i.e., like turntables) (source). Actively worshipped during the early Viking Age (metaphor for early audiophile age). Id. Associated with archery and one poem states Ullr's home is called Ýdalir ("Yew Dales"), likely explained by the preference of yew wood above other trees for making bows. Id. The last point could be played upon with the addition of wood to the turntable design, as requested by @dmckean44 above. Name may come from German roots meaning "glory, splendor, [and] honor." Id.
    • Hringhorni: Baldr's ship, described as the "greatest of all ships." (Wikipedia)
    • Sleipnir: The eight-legged horse of Odin, father of Baldr. Odin rides it, among other places, to the underworld where he is informed that Baldr will meet his doom (ominous for future sales, I know). (source; source)
    • Hodr: Because producing the turntable and dealing with the resultant customer service requests would be the death of @baldr. (source; source)

I have no interest in vinyl but the replaceable arms to maintain cartridge seating seems a brilliant solution.

I bet it's the eitr*... but wouldn't a balanced bifrost/Bifrost Multibit (with a new multibit generation) be cool in a refreshed Jot style case! Perfect companion for the Jot.

Beautiful turntable @baldr, hope you show it during the Schiitr stream next week!

I always imagined Jason beating you with a plinth if you tried to introduce a turntable. It seems you found a work around for that issue...

Holy cow. This is what I miss when I go on vacation. Will head toward the Shittr next weekend to check it out. I am assuming that Schiit will make this?

Not quite if you look carefully. The platter isn't as monstrously thick. There is no large plinth. The plinth looks likes a cast metal skeletal frame that is resting on the top shelf of a rack. There might be suspension underneath. I can't tell. The arm looks to be a unipivot type. Would love to take a closer look at that arm. Looks totally no-frills / anti-jewelry.

That Project Signature table is $5k+. I can't see Schiit wanting to hit this price point (a lot of the cost is the machined big aluminum platter) and sell three of them per year.

Still, can do some fun stuff with this - multiple motors, arms, DIY high mass plinth, etc.

I think @landroni is confusing the shelf top as the plinth.

IMG_1023.JPG I think it looks similar to the Michell TecnoDec, but I am biased since I just got one. Currently, it is sitting on top of an Emotiva ERC-3.
